Left Thenar Eminent Numbness Worry

For 4 days now a portion of my left thenar eminence (the one that twitches the most) is a little numb. It is like it stays numb for about 20 seconds a minute. It started suddenly and it is keeping me very irritated.

What in tarnation is a thenar? The fact you know the answer to that, assuming you're not an MD, tells me you're obsessing and probably googling.I have had tingling and numbness all over my hands. EMG showed the cause was ulnar nerve conduction problem consistent with leaning on my elbows. Explicitly no evidence of neuron damage consistent with ALS. I took it easy on my elbows for 2 months and it got about 95% better.Anyway, also keep in mind that ALS is a disease of weakness, not sensation such as tingling.Best of luck to you!

Nocturniscope as you know numbness is not a part of ALS. My bet is kind of tunnel syndrome.juliacristina2, he does not need to be MD to know what thenar is :) I was able to remember muscles like thenar, tibialis, abductors etc. from high school biology class...you have not paid much attention in the school, have you? :)

This region is where I twitch the most on my body. I had to give a name to it. Could not find one.Went to google to discover what it's name is, as I know everything must have a name. :)Now I know the name of this region is thenar.

I found that numbness can be a symptom of BFS.I think I am more to neuromiotony than BFS because my twitches causes me a strong aching.I can't simple ignore them because they make my arms so sore I have to sleep early because of this.

Nocturniscope: numbness surely can be symptom of BFS, not sure if intended to write BFS instead of ALS? However, for ALS its very atypical to have sensory issues and if so, these are usually very mild and diffuse, not confined to particular area.Neuromyotonia (if this is what you meant) has very specific EMG finding so with clean EMG you do not have it.

Haha TwitchyMD I've learned many things in my life and forgotten much of it.I used to know how to calculate the standard deviation of a portfolio of n assets but I'll be darned if I could do it now. That's what computers are for!
