Left Finger Twitch: One Year Later

Hi,My twitching has been going on for a year now… (good news, right?) Anyway… my question is about a specific twitch that I have NOT felt in the entire past year, but had for almost an entire day this week. Sitting at my computer desk at work, my left index finger started moving by itself. While I never saw an actual pulsing twitch (like I’m used to), this twitch manifested itself as my index finger actually moving completely, almost jerking to the left. It started with my hands at my keyboard, but basically happened throughout the day no matter what I was doing, or where my hand was situated. My question is , how normal is this twitch for BFS? I also want to note that if I straightened my arm out and lifted my index finger straight out, thus applying force to the finger, it did NOT stop. It continued sporadically, every few seconds, to forcefully, violently, twitch to the right. What do you guys think? I’m happy that it’s stopped since then, and know that must be a good sign… but is this ‘BFS Normal’? I’ve been dealing with twitches everywhere…. Abdomen, shoulder, arms, calves, thighs (bad) butt, but never had them really in the hands. This was the first one, and the fact that it was continually moving the entire finger had me bugged out.Thoughts?-Ant

Antne, this is where 90% of my symptoms are. Type finger jerk in the search bar and you will get hundreds of hits. I don't know what BFS "normal" is but from everything I gather, it is typical. The symptoms that you have are exactly like mine, however, mine NEVER stops. In addition the fat part of my thumb fasiculates 24/7 and it drives me NUTS. My finger jerks are not limited to one finger.

No finger twitches like that for me, but for over two years my big toe will rhythmically dance left and right (like someone's head when they're doing the Walk Like an Egyptian dance).

I recall getting twitches similar to those as well. Really bothered me for a time too. In my case they didn't last that long (like an hour maybe, tops), but it also doesn't seem that odd to me. I've been wrestling with this for nearly 3.5 years.

I've been having random finger twitches for over a year now and mine comes and goes. It used to happen daily for about 9 months I think then they just stopped and now they are back but not excessive like before. I have linked mine to fatigue and dehydration and lack of calcium/magnesium... but this is just from my observation not official (doctor's think it's just electrolyte imbalance cause i breastfeed still and dont drink enough water and don't get enough sleep). My calcium levels were normal but I notice some improvement after taking calcium supplements for awhile. So don't worry it's normal... just need to try to take care of yourself (stay hydrated, get enough sleep eat right).

I know exactly what you have had. this was my very first twitch. I had this when I was using the mouse and had it again next day.My right index finger extended alone and started to be pushed against my middle finger. I could feel the shocking, the muscle contracting and my finger being pulled. After that I discovered that when I forced my index finger and my middle finger together I could make this happen.I have fasciculations on my entire body too. I started taking phenytoin for the fasciculations and although my fasciculations did not get better until now (5 days), my index finger dont get this problem anymore when I force it against my middle finger (I am happy about this because this finger twitch was the worst I had until now).I am 5 months on what I hope is BFS. And I hope that it is your problem too.Have you ever taken a Quinolone antibiotic (levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, etc...)?

I am happy because I saw now on your profile that you have only 24 years old. *** is so rare on your age that I don't feel you have it and if you don't have it I can know now that this finger twitch is not as problematic as I thought. Are you female?, because if you are female you should know that it is almost impossible (rare cases only) for a 24 years old female to have this ***. It is HARD for a 24 years old MALE to get *** and it is EVEN HARDER for a so young female.

I have this exact same symptom with my right middle finger. It's scared me beyond any other symptom. It was worst last November-December, and I still notice it acting up on and off when i use my right hand a lot in certain ways.I also wonder if it's related to my alcohol consumption somehow - I seem to notice it more during nights of drinking with friends. The only thing that's keeping me from completely freaking out about this is that it has gotten better and worse on/off over the past 6 months or so....unsure of when it started, but I know it really started scaring me last November....I know I posted about it on here too! Any other insight is greatly appreciated, but definitely know you aren't alone. I'm 22 y/o male so the post above doesn't really help me out too much.... :(

Hey Guys,The good news is that my anxiety has been much better recently, and my twitching has decreased greatly. I am even weening myself off of gabapentin. I've taken several antibiotics in the past and I often wonder if that's what induced the twitching in the first place.I am 24 and male, so I know that the odds are in my favor, but that doesn't help with the anxiety and twitching. There's always that voice telling you that something's up. The good news, is that it's been 11 months since I started with this, and I feel good. I was chasing around my dog the other day, walk, talk, and feel otherwise great. Even the LPR reflux symptoms have gotten better since my last doctor's appointment and my decrease in anxiety. The finger twitch that was scaring me that day was brutal. It was jerking an entire finger to the side, but the great news is that it stopped as quickly as it started. It lasted for one day, and was gone by the next. Seems to me that it was just "BFS being BFS". -Ant
