Hi Dean, I'm a latecomer to running too - I started about 6 years ago at age 38. My symptoms started in January of this year and I think I was overdoing it before that - taking no rest days, and logging 6-9 miles (walking and running) every day.
The first neuro I saw when my feet and calves started twitching, said it would be interesting if I started lifting weights to see if my arms would twitch too. I had started a routine of lifting little 3 lb. weights every other day and have continued that, and although it's not as frequent as my legs, I sometimes have repetitive twitches in my arms now too (as well as other places!) My upper arms especially have gotten stronger and more toned, and my husband says he notices it in my shoulders and back too.
I've cut back on the mileage, adding the upper body workout, and a long stretching routine every morning. Also going to the chiropractor (had a lot of low back pain) and in therapy and on drugs (I too am a repeat offender when it comes to health anxiety!) to try to get a better handle on this. And cut way back on caffeine consumption.
My twitching seems to be more frequent at the end of the day rather than in the morning. Some mornings I have to watch for quite a while before I see a twitch even on the bottom of my feet, while they're usually going at it at bedtime. I get little jerks or flinches all over for the first 10-15 minutes when I relax and lie down.
Anyhow - welcome!
