Hi Folks,..
I'm a 50 something Respiratory Therapist who developed a left index finger "twitch/shake" about about 3 weeks ago with a shakeiness in both hands with fingers extended. I go to my GP who asks about my caffiene intake(2 coffees,3 or 4 sodas per day) does a quick coordination exam(which I had no problem with)and sets up a neurologist appointment for 1st week in Feb,..sounds good...
So I go home, over the next week I reduce my caffiene intake to 1 cup per day and give up the diet soda(I read about aspartame evils in the interim) and make the mistake of "googling""twitches and finger shakes"....well you KNOW what that leads me to....(I have a bulbar **s patient).
I begin to have bilateral cramps (Quads, calves, biceps),call my GP and ask if she should do a blood test other than the TSH(thyroid) draw that came back negative,AND I remembered that I had several unknown insect bites on my left ankle back in early AUG while at a lake cookout, and maybe could she do test for Lyme disease, she did(not back yet).
So now I'm getting ready for bed one night last week and I look at my calves and on the sides of the Quads....I'm seeing muscle twitching in both legs when standing or bending only.....Now I'm starting to lose any composure I have left, driving my wife nuts with concerns and theories of 'what if?" and thinking of my certain demise(I should inform all I was convinced I had progressive lung disease 10 years ago from my smoking days, and only a compassionate, patient pulmonologist proved otherwise). In the interim I lose 12 of my generous 212 lbs. from no appetite while I look up "doomsday" diagnosies, and test my strength in all limbs(I was out of shape before this started!!)which brings that next day soreness, along with the tightness and cramps I already have.
Thank God I found this site and started to learn of BFS and you wonderful people to keep my sanity while I wait for my neuro appt. I should mention I started a regimine of sublinguil Vitamin B12 since I have taken OMAPRAZOLE for 5 yrs.(I tapered off this week)which can greatly inhibit B-12 absorption and cause Neurological symptoms. I also managed to get a chiropractor to do a musculoskeletal/muscle exam, which I passed with no problem and feel a LOT LESS anxious, although I have "migrating" cramps calfs, triceps, biceps, quads and "pins and needles' in hands when awakening, with visable "facics" only in my Quads, not as frequent and not at rest....
So I may have BFS,...and I AM NEUROTIC(psychiatrist is in the works),..but I don't believe or think about having the "nasties" as much as possible,..and I hope I didn't scare too many of you away, cause I'd like to stop in and exchange info and encouragement from time to time. After calming down so many anxious respiratory patients over the years,I'm seeing the "other side of the fence"...Thanks for being here...rocket1012
