I was born with severe bi-lateral clubfeet (It is called talipes equinavarus). One of the physical abnomalities that comes with this handicap is severely undeveloped calf muscles. My calves are almost non-existent. When you talk about atrophy or muscle wasting, it is not subtle, it is pronounced. My legs look more like "drumsticks" not like legs. I have worried about twitches in my things in the past, but I am pretty familiar with atrophy and I can tell you that atrophy is not something that just sneaks up on you...I have a lot of twtiches in my thighs, that is because my thighs have to carry all of my body weight in order for me to walk. I have some very strong thighs, but by days end I also have some very tired thighs. I guess my point is, Kit is right, muscle wasting and weakness, as least the kind that comes with ALS would be really obvious. As my neuro said, "If you had it, we would both know it real quick."
