Hyperexcitability and Finger Tremors

Hello again,I seem to be back on the BFS trail after my long absence as I mentioned in my recent posting about CK levels. My hands and fingers have become extremely hyperexcitable in the past few weeks. Just pulling on a door handle will cause my right pinky and right ring finger to bounce around for seconds at a time. If I make a tight fist repeatedly about 4 or 5 times in a row and then let go, my right pinky and right ring finger and sometimes, my right index finger will all bounce around like crazy afterward. When I do this, quite often - one of the fingers will also "stick" and "hold" for a good 4 or 5 seconds and then finally release itself. I even get this on my left ring finger but not as much. If I hold my left ring finger completely outstretched really hard for a few seconds and then let go, it will literally move upward and get "stuck" for a few seconds until it finally releases itself. What on earth is causing this? Can a person's anxiety level cause the fingers to do this? It happens all the time lately. Klonopin (clonazepam) helps to calm the problem down but once the clonazepam wears off, the problem comes right back.Does this sound familiar to anyone? Regardless of making any fists or pulling on door handles, I just have such a weird, unstable feeling in my right hand lately. It really feels like my right pinky wants to move a lot of the time but it doesn't actually move unless I do some sort of motion with it - it just feels plain old weird and almost numb sometimes. I'm hoping this is just another form of plain old BFS (perhaps hyperreflexia is a better word to use rather than hyperexcitability for any of you who have a bit of medical knowledge - or heck, maybe it is actually "clonus"?).Any replies and reassurance would be greatly appreciated. I''m definitely on the worry wagon again...Thanks and God Bless,Mark

Just curious since no one replied - am I the only one that gets this when exerting my right hand and the fingers begin to twitch? I guess it's not a very normal thing to happen with BFS?Thanks and God Bless,Mark

Hi Mark, Today just like you have in my right hand and pinky. As soon as I flex or squeeze my right hand and fingers my pinky and the side of my hand goes crazy, hopefully this will stop by tomorrow.Stretching often brings on twitches for me

Hi Mark,My fingers and toes move around all the time on their own and I'm not anxious when it happens. I was sitting in a class last night and my fingers were moving. A little annoying, but nothing to worry about. Opening a door can set off the twiching/movement for me, too. Sometimes it goes in phases where you'll have a lot more of that kind of thing for a while and then it will subside. Hope that helps!Take Care,Sir_Trouserz

So glad if that helped Mark. Many times we'll go through periods where symptoms like this are not there and then find ourselves getting nervous when they kick back up again or change. I've just tried to learn to expect the unexpected, but a new symptom can make me worried sometimes. They always calm back down eventually though. Try not to worry as many strange things can happen with a peripheral nerve condition like BFS/BCFS/PNH.Best Wishes,Sir_Trouserz

Hey Mark,The finger stuff is the worst part of my bfs. Just like you, my fingers jerk and move...sometimes I have a hard time typing. If you figure out how to stop it, let me know. I can deal with all the symptoms of bfs...but the finger movement is the hardest to block out.Good luck.Chip

Forefinger twitching as well as "shakiness" have been a "major" symptom of mine on an off FOR YEARS AND YEARS. When it starts, I usually have a relapse of BFS----weird but VERY COMMON. Best Wishes, Denise

Thanks Denise,My left ring finger has become very hyperexcitable in the past week (every day) - I just stretch it out and it goes crazy. Same thing is still happening with my right ring finger and right pinky when making a fist. Both my hands feel really weird lately. I had another EMG test today which wasn't what I'd hoped it to be - they detected an abnormality in my left tricep which the neuro says may be related to a pinched nerve in my neck so they are ordering an MRI of the neck for me to see what's going on. Also, the neuro told me today after I prodded for him for information that there is a "chance" that I have neuromyotonia or as he put it, a "variant" which he called muscle pain fasciculation syndrome. I will post separately about this but I have to take some time out to digest all the info.God Bless,Mark
