Horrible Symptoms This Week - Help!

My symptoms this past week have been horrible (as you can probably tell by the # of posts). I had a few good weeks where I thought I was getting better but now I am worse than ever. My ears are ringing constantly. I'm twitching everywhere. I have numbness again. My feet and joints are sore. But the worst thing is the muscle cramps. I've had cramps before but never like this. I'm having to take pain killers every few hours. Does anyone else have cramping that is very painful? If so, how do you deal with it? I don't like taking a lot of medication.Sometimes I also feel like I am having a hard time breathing or taking deep breaths. Not sure if it is because I am in pain or I am anxious. Is this also a symptom of BFS?I had totally accepted that this was BFS but now I feel so awful, I'm beginning to worry again.

Right now I'm taking gabapentin for cramps and it does work. However, it makes me forgetful and drifty. Lately, because my cramps also have gotten unmanageable, I've upped my dosage because I was taking so much advil to get through the day that it was affecting my stomach. So hopefully gaba is the lesser of the 2 evils.Oh yes, bcfs/pnhe often vacillates in intensity. Some things you eat and drink may affect it so try to pay attention to your eating habits to look for clues.Pain makes it hard to breathe correctly and fully. Have you tried qigong or yoga breathing to slow things down? Try this: sit or lay down with spine strain and head erect (neck stretched if laying down) in a relaxed position, breathe in fully but don't force it, just before you reach your max hold your breathe for a moment and relax as much as possible, then breathe in that little more and let it all out. Each time you can pick a body part to focus on to relax or stay with one focus or none at all. It is important not to judge your breathing or relaxation, just focus on your breath by using mental imagery to calm yourself. Give it a try - it helps me get a handle on things. Hope it helps you.

my massage therapist says i need to breathe better-- her advice-- breathe through your nose-- not your mouth....she said she would bet that if i breathed properly, it would help my twitches-- i am trying-- she said i need the nutrients that are supplied from proper breathing--i had a bad cramp last night in my calve-- woke me up.

I have severe cramps in my tongue and have learned the hard way the Diazapam breaks the cramp cycle very easily. Well, it does for me. Be careful with them since they are habit forming but you should always keep a Diazapam pill in case of emergency in my opinion but check with your neuro first if you are a BCFSer. Look into yoga and stretching throughout the day.

I've had quite the time with cramps, too, and I don't know if this might help, but thought I'd pass it along. After trying all the traditional remedies--I drank pickle juice (yuk), put soap under the sheets, ate mustard--I stumbled across a homeopathic rememdy, Leg Cramps, manufactured by NatraBio. It seems to help: The cramps don't completely disaappear, but they do abate somewhat. Now I know this could all be a psychosomatic response, but at least I feel better . . .Hang in there, my friend.

Thank you for the responses. I'll talk to my dr. about medication. I am also starting yoga classes tomorrow. I will try and do some of the breathing at home on my own.

I know what you mean all to well when it comes to the cramps. I made it thorough the first six weeks without much problem but the past two are making up for that. I had the super tight leg muscles for a week or so and that has now transferred itself into my shoulder/neck/face. Of course along with the muscles being so extra tight I have the extra sore and tender joints and such , as you had mentioned, to accompany the tight muscles. I tried Skelaxin from my neuro but did not have much luck with it I am waiting to see what he is going to try next. I hope you get some relief soon but at least from so many of us having the same experiences we can rest assured that it is from BFS and not something else.Mike

i wanted to add that I also made it six weeks without cramps... then they started as well...They seem to move around quickly. Before one gets unbearable it stops and then it might start somewhere else. But under the thighs seem to be the area I get his with most... Also the bottoms of the feet. Can anyone else relate to that -- how it moves around? thanks.

hang tough i have been up and down for 3 + years at one point th ecramps were so bad i was up to 6 vicodain a day i don't know the answers why, but i have faith that you are experiencing a tough time there are days when i coudn't get ou tof bed and days when I could garden for hoursdays when i couldnt bear to walk ONE block and the next day ( this July) walked the entire length of Manhattan WITH two suitcases in hand?If you can afford it Brookstone has a leg/foot massager that was a great investment. $400 is costly and people told me I was cazy, but it helps meI am sending positive vibes out to you and eveyone here.be well greg
