My fasciculations is 7 month now.So last 2 months i was calm, forgot about ALS.Then there was free programme for sciatica nerve and there was free EMG so i goes. But i mentioned doctor that i have fasciculations so he said he will check very carefully and he make EMG 1 hour.Today i got results- its said "small denervation in resting"Is that means i have A..?Doctor is not free for visit today. I need wait.I am so scared.I read everywhere that fasciculations + denervation=A..(Also soon i go to EMG for my finger as 3 last days i loosing fellings in my middle finger-not fell cold or average hot-but abuot this i am calm as i wait for EMG in good place where doctor atomatically give me answer 1 min after EMG)

The_Shadow no that does not mean that you have ALS. Little signs of denervation can occur for various reasons. Guess why they check that muscle in that programme: the scatic nerve is very very prone to all kinds of injuries, like scatia, bulged disks, runners leg ( piriformis syndrome) and just little entrapments. Signs of ALS are pathological sponaneaus activity like fibs and psws in combination with others signs of severe denervation, ongoing reinnervation and not to forget weakness and upper motoneuron sign in various muscles of the body, not just one. Misinterpreting twitching and slight denervation in one muscle as ALS is like fearing a brain tumour because of a slight headache. Little EMG changes occur depending on our age and lifestyle like sports etc.

Hi Chrissi thanks for answer.Really i dont know if i have denervation in other nerve. Electrodes part of EMG was for 5 muscles. But needle part was only for this 1 muscle.Because this program was not for people with fascicluations but for people with pain in sciatica area. I dont had there to much pain in fact but i goes there as they give free EMG and also MRI. My MRI shows no trapped nerve, no bulb or herniated discs. So seems I dont have any "injuries" in my lumar and sacral.SO dont know why this denervation in my calf. How You think? Also maybe I have denervation in other muscles too :(. I gues I should get again full EMG with neddless in many muscles :(.

You said you have been twitching for 7 months now. I'm reasonably sure you would have some serious muscle weakness issues by now.

Hello Aviationrocks! In fact i just notice realy bad fellings in finger-not fell cold, not fell hot- only when put glass with very hot water-then notice anything.TOmorrow i going to my neuro for EMG of finger and maybe other muscle and will also show this last EMG.Strange is that i had in past 2 EMG and they was clear- no denervation. And now sudenlly change. :(I am still scared.

Hi Kamilla, you said they performed an EMG on 5 muscles, may I ask which muscles/limbs were tested?I'm not a doctor but I think that small denervation can be very normal to show up in the calves area.I've read that with ALS there must be signs of both chronic as active denervation (which must show up together in an EMG)(Chronic denervation can be a result of things like an old injury, surgery, weariness etc. )

Hello Fjordian! Thanks for answer. So EMG was done for:-m.erector spin L-m.guadratus L-m.gluteus max-m.rectus fem-m.gasrocnemiusBut needle part was only for m,gastrocnemius. And of course no info did it was active or chronic or whatever. Also even no words about fascuculations -when in fact when EMG was made doctor said its big fasciculations- i saw how my muscle jumping -and he even call nurse tos how her how looks big fasciculations.Today i meet him and his tlaking was not sensible.its example prt of it:- fasciculation reasons is-bones, and MRI of scaral and lubar prove it-But Doctor my MRI is good- yes, its very goodAs You see no logical. Also he said if i had ALS it will visible on MRI- rediculious.I go out then someone from my family goes and ask him again- then he said"changes can no be seens in MRI"So he was like talkinig opossite things in every minute. Also he look on paper with results and said "its good that there was no fasciculations" then i remind him there was big fasciculations (that he even called nurse) so I dont know why they not on paper.I am confused.

Fjordian i forgot to mention that in past i had 2 EMG and results was clear-with no any denervation. So I am confused. Also i ddint had any injure or anything. And sacral-lumbar MRI is good.

Fjordian one more thing:I saw on my report words"small changes in gs.mx in resting time"i thought gs.mx is some parameter only or some wave- but now i know its means gluteus max muscle. So its mean also there ihave changes. But report dont say what changes is it :(. And gluteus max was checking only with electrode. Also i see in "action time" i have from gluteus max answer" without full interferency" and I think its also not good?

I understand that you are confused, there are quite some contradictions in his story.Maybe there are some people on this board with some medical background that can help you understand the EMG results.

Thanks i hope it too. Defientelly i will meet tomorrow my neuro and show him this report. But i guess he will also dont know how to inteprete some parts of this-as its said example "small changes gs.mx in resting time" but dont tell what is this changesI also will ask him did "answer without full interference" in action time- is very bad thing. Now I am more scared than yesterday- because seems 2 muscles not good.I guees he will can just sugesst he will also make EMG for many muscles -its means again stress.

Be sure to get an answer to all your questions (at the time I wrote all my questions on paper so I wouldn't forget any). And for your reassurance you can ask the neuro to perform some basic strength/reflex tests.Wish you all the best tomorrow....
