Help! Bulbar Issues, BFS, and Throat Twitching

Just when I think I'm not freaking out about this anymore.....I'm freaking out. I have been dx with BFS after a clean EMG, however, the day after my EMG I developed "bulbar" issues. The worst part of all is the throat twitching. I have read that the throat, "esophogeal" muscles are rarely involved with BFS, but my throat definitely twitches, and it's a horrible feeling. Please tell me SOMEONE has/had this before so I can let this go. I've gotten past the fact that I twitch everywhere else, but I gotta tell you, this one scares me. And to clarify, it is not my neck, it's inside my throat. Everytime I swallow, my throat muscles twitch, and occassionally my tongue will tingle or feel twitchy. Please let me know if you've had this with BFS. Thank you in advance.

HiIn the 18 years that I have had BFs I have had throat twitches. They are unpleasant. I know that it is easier said then done but if you have a clean EMG try to let it go. I have got myself screwed up many times over the years and I am only now really accepting my condition and living with it. I often wish that I had not put so much negative energy into worrying about fasics etc. Good Luck

Its not just a clean EMG, if you've had a Clean neuro exam (clinical). etc. Your fine. Also if you've been having these symptoms for 2-3 months w/ no changes your fine. A lot of people's neuro and docs have not suggeted EMGs b/c they do NOT seem FIT . Sooooo its not just the EMG, all you need is a clinical for the sinister ***. Regards, Lovely

I definitely had that happen, started last week as a matter of fact. It kept happening in my sleep. I made a post about it because I was extremely worried too. It felt like the swallow was getting caught in my throat and it would wake me up. I told my doctor about it and she wasn't worried at all. She told me it was most likely caused by anxiety. I have been taking some anti anxiety pills now and I notice it has diminished somewhat. It's not happening as frequently as it did before.

Yes, have had that too. Check out palatal myoclonus...you may have that. In any event, my throat, tongue, and everywhere else have twitched. It's benign.

I've had it a lot, especially lately. The muscle twitches and hits agains my windpipe. I'm not sure though if it's the neck or the throat----how do you tell? Mine feels like thoat......
