Heard of Autoimmune Disorder & West Nile?

I finally got in to see one of the top Neuros in our state and what she is saying was a little unexpected. She believes I 'may' (we are doing tests) have an autoimmune disorder due to previous virus (such as West Nile). She sees around 3 (I think) patients a month with this. I don't know anything for sure yet, I am awaiting the blood tests. Have any of you heard of anything of this sorts? However, if these come back negative, I will be scheduled for an EMG (or is it EKG?).

There are a lot of people here who have autoimmune disorders. This wouldn't surprise me at all . Once you have one you can certainly have others.

soundsoap98, I have immune response as well. I have tested positive for ANA twice Hep 2 cells are 23 supposed to be below 11. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH Hepatitus! And to add to it my vitamin D is 15 and keeps dropping! my body won't absorbe it! Being reffered onto a Endocrinologist next. I'm low in Potassium as well.

I don't know if BFS is an autoimmune condition. Some people would say it is, some people would say it isn't. it wouldn't surprise me if it was, most people tend to get it after having a virus.

The research I've read on BPS/PNH suggests an autoimmune origin. A number of autoimmune disorders, for instance Guiann-Barre syndrome, seem to be initiated by a viral infection. A similar idea holds for encephalitis lethargica. This is sufficiently common that many rheumatologists and other docs will ask about recent viral infections when assessing for a possible autoimmune diagnosis.I have several minor autoimmune disorders, including subclinical hypothyroidism, borderline thrombocytopenia, and polymorphous light eruption. I've had two negative ANA tests, as well as negative results on some other autoimmune tests/titers. But I suspect they'll keep testing.
