Health Anxiety: Causes and Solutions

Ok here we go. As some of you probably know I have some generic health anxiety apart from the "normal" **S-fears and actually I was getting better with that - until now. It seems that I did something wrong today: I met some friends and somehow we decided to watch an episode of Dr House. For all of you who don't know the series: Basically it's about a hospital doctor who has a very specific sense of humor and who is sort of extraordinary in the ways he diagnoses and treats people. The series is actually quite nice to watch for "normal" people, but with health anxiety it can make you feel uncomfortable, as the series often features people with strange symptoms and diseases (which often become life threatening as time passes by) and doctors who can't figure out what's actually wrong until Dr House shows up with some very strange idea (and a lot of cynical comments lol) and saves the day.Now I really feel sort of really uneasy again about my BFS and the other ton of symptoms I have (palpitations, panic attacks etc). I DID even feel my pulse get a little faster and stronger when they mentioned some neurological issue, dying brain cells and stuff like that. It wasn't about twitching, but well, it was about neurology... Okay maybe the pulse just went up incidentally, but maybe not?I gutess next time my friends decide to watch Dr House I'll insist on watching some movie with zombies and aliens and psychopathic murderers and stuff like that -.-And sorry if this somehow sounds ridiculous or something...

I keep watching hoping that some poor BFSer will check into Princeton-Plainsboro! I would love it if a team of doctors would check me in and figure this out.Becky

I too find that what seems like a really stupid thing will trigger my anxiety. In my case, it is seeing people in wheelchairs or even 'wheelchair access' signs. Happens a lot in my job unfortunately! The anxiety leads to obsession about my own health and I start imagining myself in a wheelchair and slowly fading away due to ALS. I can't watch Dr House because it's a bit too much like work for me, although my days at work are seldom as exciting as House's! Try not to let these thoughts get the better of you (I know it can be hard)Good luckSimon
