Head Myoclonic Jerks at Night

This is the third night in a row that I have had my head jerk before falling asleep. It's like a mini spasm involving my entire head. It's not like the normal sleep start that involves a limb. Has anyone had any myoclonic jerks in their head before? After it happened twice tonight while I was trying to fall asleep, I just got up because I didn't want it to happen again.

yes I did, every single night for months on end plus I would say all of your other symptoms for sure. The one and only cause for me was anxiety

I had those for almost half a year or more. Maybe even a year. It was very scary at first, but after a while I figured out that it could have been the blood pumping in my neck although I dont know for sure. Not everything in our body is fasics and other things may cause similar feelings. Whatever the cause was it has now ceased and didnt do any damage whatsoever.Im sure that yours will go away again. Just give it some time and you will see.Regards.

I had the same problem and I really worried about it, when I explained to my anxiety councillorshe said it was from being worried and tense all day about the bf symptoms and that when I wasjust about to fall asleep my neck muscles would finally relax and it would cause that jerking or falling sensation, scares the heck out of you. She also said it was common with anxiety and shouldhelp convince me even more that its all about anxiety (which is fear or worry which we all have). So now when I get that sensation I feel reassured! This was all told to me months ago and now I see she was right about everything, anxiety is a realkick, go down the path and just see what can happen when anxiety becomes a condition! Twitching, cramping, eye problems,ect... Good Luck, Lefty

This has happenend to me a few times as well, is very disconcerning, lying in bed half awake and I know it because my teeth bite together. Good to hear others have had it as well, at least in the sense, that it is nothing to worry about.

My wife claims I do this every night. She also claims I was doing it long before I ever came down with BFS. I'm guessing it is based on tension and a sudden release of tension more than anything (like LeafLander said).

By the way, I should probably point out that a myclonic jerk pretty much saved my life one time. I was driving a car about 15 years ago late at night and I suddenly started to feel very sleepy. I tried to blink and keep my eyes open, but I guess what happened is that I somehow drifted off to sleep. All of a sudden though my eyes shot open because I had a myclonic jerk and it jarred me back awake. Scared me half to death but it probably prevented me from driving off the road.See, myclonic jerks aren't all bad. :D)

Add me to this list! I get them all the time, at least a few times a week. Sometimes they wake me up, sometimes I stay asleep while my body jerks around. My girlfriend gets a kick out of it. (Get it?? "Gets a kick out of it??" ugh...)

I get these all the time! Sometimes just one right before sleep, sometimes a few... they really are quite unnerving, but it's 'nice' to see that I'm not the only one.I also get these body jumps during the day when I am fully awake... anyone get them when they are sitting at their desk? Sometimes I'll just be sitting down and get a body jump... shoulders shrug, muscles contract. Anyone get that?-Ant
