Hand Paranoia - Atrophy or Normal?

So, i've been very paranoid over my right hand and the dent ( you can see it below the the pinky on the hypothenar and abductor). What dent you ask? ( I took the link down, ask if you want it)It feels hard to flex and using that finger isnt easy. I keep thinking its getting worse but doctors havent said a thing. I'm going to go back this week. Does that look like atrophy or normal? I google some pictures and people with the three word nasty have that... so thoughts?

Can you function normally? Have you noticed any weakness? Are you dropping things? I would have to think that you would notice weakness well before atrophy. Just my two cents.

If Chrissi was here she'd tell you that a lot of people have dents here and there on fingers/hands....very few people are perfectly symettrical and smoothly formed but the problem with BFSers is we good frantically looking for these issues, surveying our body in great detail and being hyper aware and paranoid of every little bump, groove, pain and twitch - you have no clinical weakness in your hand and thus nothing to worry about

Very true, its just that hand just to twitch so bad and I noticed the dent get bigger. on the other hand it doesn't have the same dent. Sorry I was having a bad and symptom filled day yesterday. This board helps so much

I am glad the board is helping you, dents are very common in our bodies everyone has it. Regarding atrophy and I am no expert on this but from the als board people who unfortunately has it said weakness comes first then later atrophy. Also atrophy can be caused by recitative strain injuries like carpal tunnel or ulnar nerve damage. And of cos if you want to ease your mind nothing wrong with seeing a specialist on this.Take care

oh man, sorry that is upsetting you. your probably justbburning a whole in your hand by staring at it all the time :) sorry, weak attempt at humor. i hope you have a doc you can reach out to, someone who can confirm you are OK.

ucdguy,Id have to agree with matt. Have you been dropping things lately?stuff like that would be more of a concern. I doubt its a sign of anything sinister, I have a few odd indentations on my toe and side of my feet as well but I have not had problems with clinic weakness and my EMG was clean. -C

Function over form, is my way of looking at this. I've had my hands evaluated by several neurologists, two physical therapists, and a neurosurgeon. My hands appear normal: no obvious "dents" or wasting of muscle. But I have some weakness. Also, I have difficulty opening jars, even when using a jar opener. The last arm EMG was clean, so I'm just being monitored. Apparently there's a threshold at which docs become concerned, and I'm still above it.Let us know what you find out when you are examined.

Here you go friend, I'll see your hand dent and match it... Nothing to worry about, I made a post earlier showing a bunch of differences in my body im sure u can find it on here...
