ok this could be totally out of line to ask this. I have been getting horrible girgle bubble noises after I swallow liquid or eat something. air grapepie keep coming up! In my crazy mind I think mabye it's my throat muscles not working properly! when I lay down I don't notice them much but when I'm sitting or standing there is constant noises and grapepie. am I way off for thinking like this? I just need to rationalize! If anyone has and input on this it's greatly appreciated. Ashley

Colin yes that's how I feel, better when I lie down. I guess just saying oh anxiety to myself doesn't work because in my pee brain I think how can anxiety really cause this! I just took a ant acid and I feel like its not bubbling as much? I dunno it's just my crazy mind thinks my swallowing muscles are not working properly!!! miss u lost Colin! miss all of u Guys on the chat :(

Ash, if you have any type of ibs, gerd or stomach issues which are very related to stress in spite of what google says, it;s extremely common and often one of the first symptoms of excess acid production. Stomach issues are weird. I have had them for 10 years and I've had several scopes, all were normal aside from some minor irritation. Stress causes your acid pumps to go into overdrive and meds only work for this about 50% of the time. You are fine and just having stress related stomach issues. Your history and current situation is textbook. A good gastro will verify it. stay calm and do this. 1. calm way down2. eat a bland diet for a week but don't not eat( small low protein meals).3. use prilosec for a short period of time ( 2-4 weeks)4. no caffeine, coffee( even decaf), red sauces, soda, tea, alcohol, nicotine5. try juicing during this time( cabbage juice tastes terrible but works like a champ, you only need about 4 oz twice a day)6. take slippery elm a couple times a day before eating7.take DGL and allow 30 minutes before slippery elm( look this supplement up and take these with warm water)8. start your morning off with activia yogurt after dgl and slippery elmIT WILL GO AWAY

I'm freaking out it won't stop! it girggles every single time I swallow! Can someone please assure me this has nothing to do with my throat muscles/ Al's! Because I'm totally loosing it :(

Ash, I totally understand how you're feeling! I'm also having problems with my mouth and throat. My tongue feels tense and sore on the right side (don't forget I have tongue twitches too). I also feel strange sensations when I swallow sometimes. I know this stuff sucks. Honestly, the tongue/throat stuff is what scares me the most. I've been stressed/anxious many times in my life before (before the onset of bfs), but never had this type of problems...

Yes it is crazy for this to be happening Ashley and I hope someday you will get past it. Every little thing you notice different on your body somehow gets connected to ALS. Until you correct that, this stuggle will continue. I'm crossing my fingers that you get over it soon. :)

Looks like you swallow a lot of air during eating and swallowing and even normal breathing. It is typical for anxious pepole, me too. I am still eating in a way like some dreadful creature is running behind me and I need to eat and drink as soon as possible... then the air goes back... awwwwwful feeling.I think, following dietary principles given in some of the posts above would be the best solution (except I am not sure about something made of slippery elm - never heard that this tree could be useful for stomach, but why not?)

this is why I'm freaking out:What Kind of Symptoms Occur with Swallowing Problems?Slow chewing or eatingCoughing or choking during or after eatingGurgling sounds from the throat during or after eatingThroat clearing after drinking or swallowingCoughing food back up after eatingHiccups after swallowingChest discomfort during or after swallowingUnexplained weight loss

Ashley, Funny you mentioned the "gurgles" in your throat noises, I get those all too frequently. I can get them drinking liquids, and sometimes I can yawn and I can get it right smack in the middle of a yawn, and on occasion, i can be talking and it's like the saliva grapepie up in my throat and creates that noise. To me it's embarrassing and quite audibly loud to be honest, and I'm not sure what it is. I've had it for some time now, I don't think you need to be worried any over it. :D) Carm

I'm trying so hard to not freak out but my throat makes these girgles even when I just swallow or not even swallow just tiny grapepie coming up and I can feel them. I'm freaking scared this has to do with my throat muscles VS Al's! I'm on vacation an do can't even enjoy it because I'm totally upset! Plz help me understand why this isn't ALS? Early sign

WellsFive,as Seepi told you, weird sounds and feeling of the grapepie coming up on esophagus are signs of either physiological GERD (caused by wrong diet, stomach tissue irritation, piloryc herina etc.) or anxiety caused GERD-like syndrome. being anxious you gulp a lot of air during breathing, and what you feel seems to be air regurgitation, well known for anxiuos persons. Your esophagus might also be tight, spasmatic due to fears or just have its own peristaltics (normally downward) like your guts - I suppose you are not surprised with girggling sounds caused during the day by your guts - here is the same. Something semi-liquid is moving (saliva mostly) inside your esophagus causing those sounds --I just realised mine is girggling too but I NEVER had a single fear of it, whishing you the same.Bulbar palsy means significant problems with swallowing, and there is not so much muscles in our throat to compensate for dead ones. people caught with bulbar palsy ususally first notice they can not eat as before - single eating act is lengthed significantly, they struggle to swallow because they have significantly damages synchrony in working of throat muscles, and instead of opening under the food pressure it is closed etc. That is why they feel chocking and have to eat a single breakfast for hours. It also alters speech, and significantly - it becomes slurry and nasal like for those who are caught by stroke (but not like when you have flu or slurring due to extreme anxiety or tirednes). All sounds became... well, flat and colorless, and the voice is toneless and definitely struggling for wording. and it is quite quick.I mean have girggle in your throat for months and nothing more dramatic would rather mean you need a week of antacide treatment, a change in your diet and maybe a visit to gastroenterologist to see if you need protonic pump inhibitors or not.holy god, that GERD-like syndrome might cause you even worse surprises (I had A FEELING that my food gets into my nasal cavity, which is definitely not the best experience in my life - not real nasal regurgitation but just FEELING of it) - and it still comes and wanes and left me quite harmless.go on enjoy your vacation as much as possible. it includes probably a bit of antianxiety pills to be able to do it.

thank u both for ur reply! I'm just beside myself! It's like a tiny sqeal almost in my throat! Never had this ever :( I'm just trying understand Al's in the throat.
