Getting Back to Exercise: Muscle Pain?

I too am getting back to my exercise routine. I am twitching like crazy. I was wondering if you had a lot of muscle pain in the beginning. (almost like when you work out too hard you are very sore) I am so sore after my workouts and I don't feel I am working out THAT hard. It does go away after a couple of days.

I was just wondering if you experienced this and if so does it still continue.

Yes! I started running again about 4 or 5 months ago. About 3 miles in 30 minutes. My twitching would go crazy afterwards and my legs would constantly hurt, but not to the point that I could not tolerate it.

I took about a 1 month hiatus from running because my life was so busy. Ithen started running about 1 month ago again and I would run my 3 miles in 30 mintues. I would not twitch any more than I would before my exercise and I would not get the muscle pain anymore. I have been increasing my exercise time and distance over the last two weeks. Last night I ran 6 miles in 60 minutes and I could tell my twitching increased, but only by a little bit. I feel great today. A little twitching, but no muscle pain. I think I attricbute all of this to the fact that my anxiety is WAY down. Also, it is VERY normal to get muscle twitches after exercise, so the fact hat I twitched a liitle more after my run last night, does not really bother me because I know that is also normal for non BFS people.

Hope that helps.

Another funny thing is that after I ran last night I showed my wife on how my pinky finger was twitching like crazy. She said "Oh that's funny because i get the same thing sometimes and after I exercise."

This is part of the fact of why that I think everyone has BFS or twitching to some degree. I just think some people obsess over it more than others. She has always had the myclonic jerk thing at night, but never really thought much about it.

Interesting, huh?

I agree. I know my "first round" is twitching came on after some intense exercise. I've always been an exerciser/fitness enthusiast, but usually every Nov/Dec I slack due to business.

Then come Janurary, I hit the ground running. Heavy weightlifting, running, running inclines, etc. At that time the twitching started, I was also getting very little sleep, drinking lots of coffee and eating a fair amount of extra dark chocolate. I am certain that's what brought on my twitches.

Later, after freaking out for a few weeks, I told my DH about it. He said "oh, yeah I get those in my legs sometimes." I said "yeah, but does it last all day" and he said "sometimes."

So in the beginning you were pretty sore? I have just begun working out 3x a week. I ride a bike for 20 mins and do the treadmill for another 20. Then I do a weights routine. I was working my calves so much trying strengthen them but I think I was doing too much. I never worked out my calves before with weights so I think they are in general a little less strong.

Thanks wolverine. By the way is that a current pic of you. If so wow you are in good shape.

Ran 4.5 miles last night and not sore at all today. It took at least a month for my soreness to go away after exercise.

Get exercise equipment at home, much easier to do and easier to motivate yourself if it is right there for you to use. You don't have to pack a bag and drive to exercise that way. This is one reason I never join a gym, to much work just to get to exercise.

I'm really excited because my new house that I will be in in about 2 months has a running/walking path that is 1 mile long that is literally across the street from the house. It also extends into some other areas that I think might make it as long as 5 miles. Can't wait to get on it.

I can understand gettting out of the house as your time alone. My wife starting working at night during the week about a year ago and she loves it for that smae reason.

WOLVERINE-
MY HUSBAND WAS A BODY BUILDER FOR 15 YEARS AND HE HAS ALWAYS HAD TWITCHES. WHEN HE WAS IN IS HEY DAY HE WOULD COME HOME AND STRETCH ON A MAT IN THE LIVING ROOM- HE WOULD MARVEL AT HIS QUADS...NOT JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE HUGE BUT WHEN HE WOULD LAY THERE THE MUSCLES WOULD JERK AND ROLL. IT WAS CRAZY. HE ALWAYS REMINDS ME THAT THE TWITCHING MEANT NOTHING- HE SAID ALL HIS BUDDYS HAD THEM TO SOME DEGREE AS WELL. THEY BELIEVED THAT IT WAS AN ELECTROLYTE IMBALANCE--- POTASSIUM ISSUE.. YOU KNOW STUFF LIKE THAT.
WELL MY HUSBAND NO LONGER WEIGHS IN AT 260 BUT STILL TRAINS AND STILL HAS THE MUSCLE TWITCHING , BUT TO A LESSER DEGREE THAN BEFORE. OF COURSE I TELL HIM THAT HIS TWITCH IS FROM BEING A MEAT HEAD AND MINE IS FROM A.L.*.......YEAH, THATS WHEN HE TELLS ME IM THE MEAT HEAD.
