I had a full body EMG(both hands, both feet, both arms, both legs, butt cheek, spine, jaw, and toungue)This was my second one, my first only involved my right two limbs. My question is, have you guys had a full one like this? I have never read where someone else had one of these, or maybe there all like this and my first one was a rip off.. I think my second neauro done this just to put me thru alot of pain to keep me from asking for another one....Because he said that he had two other people with beingn fasics, both in the medical field and he could not convince them it was benign. He told me after the clinical that it was benign, and I said are you 100% and he grined at me, then I asked him again and he ordered this...I know it's a dumb question, but I'm just interested in knowing how your EMG's were. And I'm not saying a full body one is better, because from what I have read it does not matter either way. I think I just got tortured....

Hey Randy,My EMG was one leg, one arm and back muscle, ten needle sticks in all. Your sounds like one that a neuro would give when looking for ALS. Yes, IMO based on what you said, not necessary at all. But really, was it so bad? The worse thing about my EMG was how afraid I was prior. And I'd take an EMG anyday over an MRI.

I'm a little surprised you have only had the one response Randy, nearly everyone on this board has had and EMG, whats up with that  Any way, you know my story, 4 sticks in each leg. 2 in each calf area, and 2 in each thigh area, fun, fun. Wasnt much fun and wont be a test I elect my self for again if I can avoid it.Take careRobynn :D)

I've had two EMGs about two years apart. First was right leg with about 4 areas to test. Second was up and down left and right arm. No problems on first one, ulnar nerve problem in both arms on second one. Diagnose with elbow nerve compression. Stayed off my elbows for two months and my arms got better significantly.Never heard of one as extensive as yours.

I have done 6 muscles in different areas of my body. Your EMG is text book examlpe of EMG done if LMN disorder is suspected, or to say it better, if doctor wants to be sure there is no neurogenic process going on anywhere in body. Such a thorough EMG with clean results is the best proof you can have that your condition is not caused by lower motor neurons degeneration.

Hi Randy, My emg was like yours. Both feet, legs, hands, arms, groin, all the way up the back and neck. No jaw or tongue though. It came back clean. I don't think my neuro really suspected anything..just wanted to be thorough. I'm glad because I really wouldn't want to go through that again. No fun! I needed it mentally though ;)

With the ulnar nerve issues I was having coordination issues when using a mouse.I have also had electric shock problems mostly in my left hand. I have pain from my shoulder to my fingers in both arms including my elbow. Like I said - I stopped leaning on my elbows and it got much better. My neurologist said he had the same problem and that being tall and thin makes you more susceptible to it because you have less padding in your elbow. One other thing to note is that all of my shirts rip in the elbows after about 18 months. My wife would constantly say to me, "sheesh you must be hard on your elbows."

Normally the areas affected are the ones tested. Reason is, if there is weakness in your right leg, you will defenitly have evidence on the EMG in the right leg if it's activly being affected. This is why docs test the areas complained about. If other areas are not symptomatic, it's highly unlikely those areas will show any stronger evidence than the ones you feel are giving you problems. The doc probably was being thorough but you might have gotten a little punitive treatment at the same time. He might be a great doc but if you won't accept what he says, he might have just mentally said " okay, you asked for it". I don't think he tried to harm you, the emg just probably was rough in and of itself. I had my right side tested( upper & lower) and my back. So my question is, do you now believe you're okay. I hope so because it sounds like you went through a lot to get that info. I hope you feel better mentaly and physically.
