Frequent Morning Jerks Scary?

I get these pretty often actually, esp. first thing in the am. I will wake up and still be lying in bed and my hand can be open and relaxed when I will jerk and my whole fist will almost close. Scary sometimes but it doesn't happen during my awake hours- although sometimes my leg or ankle will do stupid jerks.

One time I had a whole body jerk, I was sitting at the computer and my whole body felt like it lurched forward  WEIRD!! I think that that stuff happens to "normal" people too it is just one of those things...

It is nice to get some feedback on this. My twitches at first were very much like I see described here. They happened here and there, moved to different places in my body and had mild to strong movements. I had read that benign fac's were typ not strong enough to move joints. So when I started to get these twitch's that did it really started me worring again. (You all know how that goes)
Most of mine occur early AM also. I notice my hand jerk at the wrist, or as I said the leg jerks backward from the knee. My ankle jerks down while sitting at my desk. Or my shoulder jerks forward and makes me feel like my whole body moved a bit. I have heard of something called myclonic jerk. I used to get it when I fell asleep. Don't know what it means. But my wife tells me I still shake or have a whole body twich when falling asleep. Guess I'm just worried that the new intensity and strengh of the twitch's classifies as a SINISTER SIGN  Lol
I am leaving for Europe this Sat and a little worried about being out of the country so my anxitey level may be a bit high.
Take care all

Hi all
Haven't been on in a while. I was in Europe for 2 weeks. Got back on May 21st. Did a lot of walking while there and felt pretty good. My "Joint jerks" have subsided a lot but still happen from time to time. I know what you mean about one thing stopping and another popping up. That happens to me also. I also believe that focusing on them makes these issues much worse. Not doing it is easier said than done though.
Take care all. Talk to you soon.

So if I read your e-mail right your saying that my twitches still sound benign in nature , yes? It may have been misinterpretation of the facts , but I think it is exaxctly what I read. So if it is incorrect someone else in a medical document stated it incorrectly.
This also is part of the problem of seeking out all this other information. It is often easy to "Get It Wrong" I don't know if your statements are correct or not either, or what they are based on. Many people on this site seemed to have done extensive research on this subject and some have conflicting things to say about it. The first time I started getting twitches (About 1 1/2 years ago now) I looked up twitches on ( and cramping )the internet and was directed straight to an ALS diagnosis. It said that most twiches and muscle cramping associated with ALS are in the feet and hands. At the time that is where mine were. It sent me on a major tailspin and many Dr's visits. It was a very bad time. I still have other issues going on. Some problems with swallowing. But the twitching hasn't been so bad lately.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to the post.

Hi Face,

Along with the pure muscle twitches (eyelid, nostril, face, leg muscle, stomach, etc) -- I have joint movement twitches in my hands. When I stretch my fingers out so that my hand is sprawled out straight - my fingers quiver/twitch, move around from side to side (both rythmically and kinf of abruptly) --- Then once in a while, I will get a larger twitch/jerk that moves the entire hand, not just fingers.

I have wrist and ankle twitching that mainly occurs in the morning. I have frequent finger twitches and tremors in my fingers. Some tremors come and go and others are always present when I hold my hand a certain way, flex my wrist. My husband and son have BFS too, if that's what this is. This started for all of us after I had my daughter. She had a right leg jerking movement (several times an hour) until she was 5 months. The doctor told me not to worry about it. Now she's 2 yrs old and has Raynaud's and has to see a rheumatologist for possible autoimmune connective tissue disease. Something triggered this in all of us and we're very frightened for our daughter.
