Fixing My Temperature Regulation Issues

I have to know: Do any of you have issues with temperature regulation??? For instance, I can be having a "hot flash" and my skin be totally flushed but I'll cover up with a blanket and shiver? Or on a hot summer day I'll walk outside and for a few minutes feel like I'm freezing. Conversely, I can walk outside during the winter and burn up in a blizzard. I don't know what this is, its like my nerves try to overcompensate when the temperature changes. Any ideas or similar experiences?Frances

hey frances..theres no such thing as a dumb question...i have trouble regulating my temperature too..but im going thru menopause at the moment to so im not sure if its causing the hot flushes, cold chills or if its the bfs causing it....

I get lots of hot warm feelings just looking at the many pretty ladies on this board. On a more serious note ...i can relate to temperature stuff. We are currently half way through our outdoor winter bowling season and the past couple of weeks has been alot colder here. Ive noticed the more clothing ive put on the colder ive felt so i decided to remove a layer or two take off my hat and glove and hey presto i feel all rosey and warm.

We are a hot bunch, aren't we RD??? ;) I haven't had my thyroid checked since last May, when it was all within a normal range. My mom has thyroid issues and she thought the very same thing. My hands are always cold too. It could be 100 degrees outside and my hands will still feel like ice. I get tired of doing things such as going to an indoor basketball game where it's warm and sitting there with chattering teeth while I'm flushed head to toe in a hot flash. If I had a dollar for every time someone stopped me and asked me if I was having an allergic reaction to something because of the splotches I could afford to retire now.

Hi Frances, Not at all a dumb question; is there any correlation with burning up feeling and a sense of claustrophobia, so when you go outside it kind of lingers even if it's cold??? Just an ideaRegards

It is chills. Shivering. Is is common with peoples having BFS with more sensory symptoms than twitches.I have that since all this happens since my 3d "flare up" that was about 70% sensory. You're shivering even when hot. You're shivering a lot even with a bit of emotions or a bit of external parameter change (temp for example). One doctor explained that our "impaired" sensory nerves send erroneous information to our brain. So instead to be at "zero" as normal peoples (in usual situation) we are may be at level 3. Upon some external (cold change for example) or "internal" stimuli (emotion) then we jump to level 7 (3 + 4) in our brain while "normal" peoples jump only to level 4. At this level (7) we experience the same symptoms that have "normal" peoples with a LOT BIGGER emotions for example!Brain/perip?eral nerves have to be taken as a whole, not independently! That's is why i stopped caffeine (it increase the awareness and exitation) because it was increasing all that stuff and i had lot of improvement doing this.Drugs as Klonopin should do some "good" job (unless counteracted by other drug as caffeine or anxiety) because it lower the awareness (calm down), i suppose. Lyrica does also some job by increasing the GABA neurotransmitter that is a major "calm down" internal drug in the brain.Fun with BFS!
