Finger Twitch: Worried about Diagnosis

Okay, now I have something that's bugging me. I know that my clean neuro exams and emgs (2) one from the UCSF ALS specialist mean that I do indeed have benign fasciculation. However, I am freaking out about a persistent twitch of my left middle finger. It is set off when I make a fist or lift something heavy. It is like a pulsating twitch - sometimes it twitches once and sometimes it twitches 3 or 4 times in a row. I feel an electrical sensation every time it happens. This happens almost every time I use my left hand in the ways described above. Somehow, I have convinced myself that this is clonus and thus indicative of upper motor neuron problems. I am too embarrassed to call the UCSF neuro about this, but should I for reassurance? Does any one else get this upon using a hand. Before, I got finger twitches that moved the fingers, but this one is so consistent that it is scaring me.

i use to get it all the time.. it was annoying and scarry at the same time... its all a part of this syndrome we call benign fasciculations
 
Thanks for your replies. No carpal tunnel. It's just a persistant twitch of the left middle finger. I took 1 dose (.50mg) of klonopin and after 3 weeks of twitching in that finger on and off, all day every day, it is GREATLY reduced. It still twitches from time to time but like 10% of what it was. The klonopin gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling and I didn't notice the rest of my twitching that much for a few hours. My leg twitches are on full blast today, but these don't bother me nearly as much as the finger and left eye (which is a bit better today).

I think klonopin does a good job of interrupting hand twitches, maybe because they are of the larger variety. It feels great to have taken a dose, but I can't go back to being an "on drugs" mother - it's just not my thing. I think I will keep the bottle on hand though for times when I just need a 1 dose break from bfs.

Hi,

I have had VERY persistent hand and finger twitches. They are scary. I have a spot on my palm and another on the pad beneath my thumb. Both on right hand.

BTW, my neuro told me if klonopin works on your twitches, you don't have ALS.

Fargo, Hi!

I'm taking Xanax as well. (.5 at bedtime) If you're getting sleepy during the day, just crank it back a little. Glad it's helping!

My fingers move back and forth. Sometime even up and down! The majority of the time it happens after I've just done something with my hands like opening a jar, squeezing out a washcloth, carrying a plasitc grocery bag by the handles. Occasionally, it just happens for no apparent reason too.
