Finding a Great, Open-minded MD

Hey Folks,I finally got over to a great MD that I respect a lot and saw him yesterday. This is an actual MD who is very open minded. He believes in Chelation for instance, believes in testing for extracellular minerals - a more accurate test than a blood test for Mg, Ca..etc. He also believes that treating just for bacteria (antibiotics) can throw your body out of whack and allow the fungus (candida) to spread in your gut and wreak havok. He helped me 10 years ago when I had some more MS like symptoms - no twitching, just tingling in my hands, vision was a little wacky. We (he) found high levels of mercury in me, very low magnesium and a nice Thrush coating on my tongue. We chelated the mercury, supplemented me with minerals and he treated me with an anti candida diet along with Diflucan. Guess what - I got 100% better. This was after being at Mayo for MRIs, EMGs, Spinal Taps, and being told then that I had nothing and that I should go home and not worry (sounds a lot like what they told me to do with my BFS)Anyway, he was very interested in my last 14 months and is convinced I don't have ALS or MS or something. (reassuring) He asked me if I had had any sinus infections lately, I said maybe 3 this year (hmmm, could be fungus), Did I take antibiotics? (yes, I have taken 3 courses of a Z-pack and I routinely take Doxycycline (antibiotic) to eliminate a mild form of Rosacea...so I have been taking TONS of antibiotics). I also love cheese and drink too much beer/wine. It all adds up for a recipe for Candidiasis. I need to clamp down on my diet, quit drinking for now, and go on an aggressive course of Diflucan. Also we did a test for extracellular minerals. 10 years ago I was very low on magnesium. I had a blood test 4 months ago that showed I was low-normal. Dr. Dole (Michael Dole, MD) told me that blood tests for minerals are very innacurate and that you need to do an extracellular test to really get a handle on your minerals. I have been taking daily Magnesium supplements, but I have been taking TOO MUCH. I am having a lot of diarrhea due to too much magnesium, which actually flushes more out of my body. So that, along with my "immoderate drinking" (trust me, I am not an alcoholic, quit for weeks at a time, NEVER had a DUI or not worked to drink or anything, but I can put down 4-6 beers/wine a day and live to tell about it) it all adds up to a probable low magnesium level in me, plus drinking beer or wine adds to the yeast level in your body. So, no real news yet, just a thought from a very open minded MD that I respect. I will keep you posted on what we find and how I feel as I begin to kill of the Candida in my body with the Diflucan (it makes you feel a tad sicker at first). I am looking forward to the next month.lastly he told me I would probably need to increase my use of Klonopin a little. If I was going to quit drinking, I was using alcohol as my "other" anti-anxiety drug and would need something else instead. Good idea.

I have to admit scaling back on the drinking does help with the symptoms, it is a little worst at first, but when you adjust you really start to get some good deep sleep. The symptoms are still there, just you energy level is so much better that you sort of plow through them. I know this, yet continue to fall back into my evening *beep*. I will be interested to see how this works out for you, I would suspect you see a big difference within a week. Have you cut out the drinking previously after the onset of your BFS symptoms?
