Feeling Normal with a Cold?

This is about the 3rd time this has happened. I catch a virus of some sort and while I have it no CFS symptoms. It is very ironic that I feel more normal when I'm sick with a cold. In a way, it's a relief to know that this place of no spasms and cramps still exists for me (just a few little twitches and crawlies which are of no bother). I don't get sick a lot, maybe once a year, so it's not like I have a lot of repetitions of this so, I was wondering if anybody else has noticed this? Next up a new book out: "Please Cough on Me: A BCFS'ers Plea" ;)

I seem to be the oppisite. When I get a cold or flu(even severe allergys) mine gets worse, another reason I believeThis condition to be virual

Edado - I know how you feel. :( It is one thing then the other and we are here trying to figure it out. Since I got almost no responses to this I guess it's not a hot topic. I need to be more sensational. :)

I find since I've had this (BFS), I don't seem to get sick anymore. I have 3 kids and usually pick up everything they get. Since this all started for me (around November '97), I haven't had any viruses. Not sure if its coincidental. I don't get much sleep (since my baby doesn't like to) so I would have figured I would be picking up lots of bugs! But I'm with you, I would definitely welcome a cold over BFS symptoms!

Postpartum - I've had other bcfs'ers tell me that they hardly get sick anymore. One friend said he hadn't been sick since he's gotten it (over 8 years!); he figures that his autoimmune system is so active that it is super-vigilant. I'm also exposed to a lot of viruses and rarely catch one so he may have something there. But that's if you're in the autoimmune cause of bcfs camp. I think some cases may be caused by immune problems but reading through posts here and some people's cures/diagnoses it seems that there are many causes. We always want to simplify things but our bodies are wonders of interaction & compensation; it's believable that various body systems can interact with the nervous system causing similar (BCFS) symptoms.Roger - Since I've had bcfs my seasonal allergies have pretty much disappeared. Allergist says the remaining symptoms I have are a result of an irritated/sensitive nervous system. It's another weird interaction along the lines of the 'I believe everything/nothing' about this disorder.PS Still have the cold and even after heavier than normal physical work last weekend - no cfs. I'm not sleeping much so maybe that's why I still have it....

AllGoodHere - That's very interesting to hear that there are others who don't seem to sick any more with BFS. I didn't realize that. I do believe mine is of an autoimmune origin. It started after I had a baby in 2007 (I accidentally put '97 in my earlier post). Women can definitely develop autoimmune disorders after giving birth. I developed hypothyroidism after having my 1st baby. This started after my 3rd. I guess no more babies for me :) Here's hoping your cold lasts a bit longer :)

Hi,I noted the same. When I am sick (diarrhea, fever...) I do not have BFS symptoms, but it is back as soon as I feel well again, w/o any chance to enjoy not having both.mike

Hi Mike - Yes they're baaack! Thursday driving home from work my outer thighs started over-tightening and my back and neck ..... by the time I got home and out of the car my knees were already swollen and of course no more cold!
