Fatigued Smiling - Thoughts?

I cannot say I have this symptom but I have lots of twitching in my facial muscles so they are definitely effected. I also mentioned in another post that I read in a medical journal about a model who came in to the hospital/doctor complaining that she could not smile. She was diagnosed with a mild form of GBS, treated, and completely recovered. I have also known two people with bells palsey who temporarily had trouble with facial muscles. My situation, the model's situation, and the people I've known with bells palsey do not mean that you have what I or they have but it does show that non-sinister things can effect the facial nerves and muscles. People here complain of fatigue in muscle that twitch so I cannot think of a logical reason why the same thing cannot happen to any muscle being effected by what is labeled "bfs."I also think TMJ can cause facial muscle fatigue. My dad is a major stressor and complains he has trouble chewing certain things. He has complained about this for many years but no one but him notices a problem. He only mentions it every now and then so I'm guessing it is just fatigue from tensing his facial muscles too much. Maybe those with TMJ could shed more light on this issue.

I do have tmj as well and it has gotten worse the past few months. My jaw clicks each time I chew. Mostly on my right. I think there is a connection. Maybe I phrased it wrong when I said effort smiling. I can smile but sometimes it's hard to make a fake smile cause I am so tired. So I don't smile that much lately. Still breastfeeding round the clock so that could be a factor

I am glad you think your TMJ and general fatigue are the culprit in your case as that is certainly the most plausible explanation. If you have twitching elsewhere, I know it is easy to be hypersensitive to all bodywide issues even when they are caused by the more typical things that most people have at one time or another.

For sure - especially when I am forced to deal with idiots. TMJ is a catch all term for most people that includes tension in the jaw muscles, teeth grinding, headaches. As I understand it, sometimes the grinding and jaw pressure can damage nerves and tissues if it gets real bad. Even though I had this stuff for a while it eased off (it was difficult so I'm not making light of that) like many of the other symptoms do. I had some help with it from a physical therapist; also learned to meditate a short session before falling asleep, and do self massage on the face and neck all of which seemed to help. Hope it gets better for you.
