Started with fasics two years and 2 months ago. Negative exams and EMG's x 2. Doing pretty well until noticed that right calf has atrophied away. Noticed this about 2 months ago. Still have the weak right lower extremity which has essentially been present since the get go. Have lately been unable to rationalize the calf atrophy. Input would be appreciated..........patrick...

Injury? Compressed nerve at some point? Arthritis? There seems to be this general presumption amongst the worriers on this board that atrophy and ALS go together like like Fish and Chips. Well ALS is a progressive and generalised disease, there are also many local causes of muscle wasting all of which are more common.

Hi bsuqb1A major cause of atrophy is disuse. If your lower right extremity has been weak from the get go, it follows that you have probably been favoring that leg and not using it as much as the left. That could explain the atrophy you've noticed. Older people often get atrophy in muscles when they don't use them.Sandra

After 2 years, if it was anything sinister (and by that I think you know what I mean..) you would have a lot more symptoms such as severe weakness etc.Think yourself lucky and just accept it...;))I wish I could take my own advice...so sorry if it sounds patronising
