I've had fasciculations for over two years now and while nothing appears to be wrong according to my neurologist, he did mention that it could be caused by a "channel problem"...his theory is that sometimes our sodium, calcium and potassium channels get crossed up and accept the wrong element. Since we have billions and billions of ion channels in our bodies that make up our muscles and nerves, it makes sense that sometimes they make mistakes. Now that we have noticed the fasciculations, it would appear that they happen much more frequent, when actually, they have been happening all along.
Unfortuantely, there is not enough research on this theory to validate his claim, but it certainly seems logical.
Has anyone else heard of this?
