Facial Twitches, Hand Numbness

Last night when I was sleeping I experienced the usual faciculations and tingling then, my fingers on my right hand went numb, I was able to shake it out but then the same thing happened on my left hand. Like I said once I shook it out it was fine but it was scarey. I have had the EMG and all the blood tests-Normal. Has anyone else had this happen?

Thank You,
Julie

Juli847,

I'm not a big lyme guy, but you might want to get a western blot lyme test if you are reacting to augmentin. Some people with lyme have a herx reaction from antibiotics, and you may be experiencing that. You are probably lyme free, but it is always a possibility and worth checking into.

Good luck,

Gary

The hand numbing happened to me early on with my BFS....my doc attributed it to anxiety (specifically from hyperventilation without my knowing it). Sounds strange, but the body can do very weird things when anxiety strikes (even if you don't feel anxious). With sinus problems, it's quite possible that your breathing patterns are off, and therefore you might be hyperventilating. Check out hyperventilation syndrome on the web to get more info about it. It's common.

Gary's suggestion about ruling out lyme is good to keep in mind. Talk to your doc about all the possibilities for these strange symptoms. Nothing gives reassurance like getting rid of all the 'what-ifs'.

Hope your symptoms pass soon--In fact, I'm sure they will!

I also had my hands and arms tingeing numb and hard to move many times at the beginning of this my chiropractor said I was sleeping on my arms. Are you a stomach sleeper by any chance? Also could someone tell me what a herx reaction is I seem to have problems with antibiotics since all this started.

mml,

A herx reaction, as I understand it, is a proces that takes place in people that have an infection such as lyme. When you start taking antibiotics, the dying lyme (in this example) give off a toxin and make you feel terrible. If you do a google search on herxheimer reaction (i hope i spelled it correctly), you should find a bunch of info.

Take care,

Ok, I looked up the Hex thing and it DOES sound a little like me. I have had such bad muscle pain and since I started the Augmenton I have woken up sweating every night. Im not sure about Lyme but I guess it is a possibility since Wisconsin is a big Lyme area. However I dont recall getting a deer tic bite and dont have the bullseye rash (I know you dont need it) But, the hex thing also says sometimes you could have other things you are sweating out. I hope this is the case, but I guess it can also be just normal BFS too. I have had myself convinced lately that I have Lupus just because of my muscle pain... but today I think I will stick too the Hex thing. I will have my neuro check out the Lyme thing when I see him after Xmas. I think my GP is getting sick of me, I have had her run a ton of blood tests (B12 is still pending) anyway, I hope all this stuff goes away soon. You guys are great! Thank you so much.
Julie
