Exploring Unusual Morning Twitches

Last weeks I have been experiencing something strange. I wake up early and got a lot of twitches in arms, back and abdomen. I roll over - strong twitching, I stretch arms - strings twitching, I wait a while - twitching. But just in the morning, during the day it is much better. I cannot think of any explanation why the irritability is always increased in the morning.

HI TD...My best guess is that this increase in twitching many of us report in the morning, has to do with the increase in cortisol levels that takes place upon awakening with most people.Take Care :D)

It would be great if we could "explain" BFS, but I always thought that I twitch really bad when I wake up at night or in the morning, because I overbreathe while I'm asleep. At least my wife says that I'm breathing much too fast, so much that she often can't sleep because of it.

There is a possibility that you are reacting to the laundry detergent, fabric softener, or dryer sheets that you are using for your clothes and sheets. Laundry degerget caused me problems and dryer sheets caused my wife problems. Its amazing the crap and chemicals they put in all of the above said items. Natural detergents like 7th Generation or Tide Free and Clear are usually good options to try. A good natural alternative to using dryer sheets is to put reusable 'wooly balls' in your dryer with your clothes. The great thing is that they don't go bad so you can always reuse them. Fabric softeners are just plain bad stuff and you can do without them. Its amazing the neurological affects that an irritant against your skin can cause. Worth a shot.

I second SAM on this. My son has bad eczema and we have had to use the natural detergents (which are much better for the environment, as it is) to prevent irritating his skin. I was shocked when I looked into detergents and what's in them, and how they actually kill fish/other animals, downstream. Someone on here (BFS Burger) posted about putting a bar of soap in your bed to help with restless leg syndrome, which I didn't believe until I googled it and saw how many people it seemed to help. So there might be something to the "environment" of your bed. But ML's comment about the cortisol could be true too (although mine is high during the night, it's low in the morning - when I had it tested). Or the way you breathe during the night, etc. I'm guessing there is a solid reason why you twitch much more in the morning, just not sure what it is. It's worth exploring all the above.

If there's one thing I've learned over the years, its that less than 1% of the time we have a CLEAR explanation for our symptom pattern. We can see many similarities between cases and many differences as well. If you can resist the impulse to search for answers and care less then you will probably find relief long term (symptom-wise and mentally).

I find my twitching in certain spots to be much worse in the morning. Sometimes it wakes me up. I get some twitches in the early morning that pretty much go away for the rest of the day. Interesting! Don't know why.
