Exploring BFS Symptoms

heylo everybody.after searching i found quite a bit on shaking, but i didn't see anything that quite described what i'm experiencing. and as seems to be the case with most folk dealing with this disorder (as well as most people that use online forums in general hah) i'd like to get a response to my exact questions.i have all the symptoms of BFS. I had twitched a bit more than average my entire life, but about 18 months ago it started becoming bothersome, and since then it has gotten steadily worse and worse. the only thing that really concerns me, though, is that i shake quite a bit. again, i serached the forums, and read a lot about people feeling "internal tremors" that really woren't visible. I do get things like that occassionally, but i also get classic parkinsons sort of shaking. As far as i can remember, i haven't ever really been able to "snarl" without my cheek shaking up and down uncontrollably. And just a few months ago, i noticed that when i tried to smile, the corners of my lips would shake. That's the best i can describe it--i can't really discern whether they were contracting or relaxing, i just know that they were moving around a whole lot uninentionally. At the time, i just thought this was a twitch and it would pass. But that was about 4 months ago and it hasn't improved. Also, there are days where it feels like my right lip is harder to move than my left (but never the other way around).I have been reassured by the fact that i have good days and bad days--something that i think is unusual for most serious disorders that could cause this shaking. Sometimes there'll be barely any shaking, some days i can feel them shaking when i don't even notice i'm smiling.I have similar shaking whenever i work out a particular part of my body. I did some strenuous uphill hiking a few days ago, and on the walk downhill my legs were visibly shaking. That is something i think is fairly normal for BFS. Its seemingly unprovoked shaking that disturbs me. A few days before that i carried around heavy boxes in my hands (as opposed to putting it on my shoulder or something) and i could barely write. Anytime i curled my fingers together they would start shaking very noticeably.Anyway, I was just wondering how many people have experienced this same external shaking only to be told that it's nothing to worry about. I'll be seeing a neurologist about my symptoms soon, but he can't see me for several weeks. Thanks a ton for your time-Kyle

also, i forgot to mention, over the last few moment i've notice my hand is less steady than it used to be. its not shaking by any means, though.but a lot of times when i'm typing, and i let my hand rest on the keyboard, one or more of my fingers will start sort of "wiggling" uncontrollably, like its trying to keep its balance on a point or something.

Phil, I'm not a neurologist but what you're describing doesn't sound like Parkinson's tremor. PD causes resting tremors - that is - tremors that only appear when the affected body part is completely at rest (e.g. when your hand is placed on the table, completely relaxed).Tremors that only appear when you move a body part or when it is held against gravity (e.g. when you place your palms on the hand-rest and extend your fingers or hold them over the keyboard) are called action or holding tremors. They are typical for essential tremor - which is a benign tremor that usually starts in your 20s. It sometimes gets gradually worse but usually not to a disabling degree. Does anyone in your family have shaky hands or a neck tremor? ET is very frequently genetically predetermined. Incidentally, BFS and essential tremor seem to be related - a high percentage of ET sufferers have twitches and many of those diagnosed with BFS also suffer from ET. The most important thing about ET and BFS is to relax. Tremors and twitching get worse by stress. Anyway - if this is worrying you, please do see a neurologist - I'm pretty sure this'll give you some peace of mind! If he diagnoses ET in you, a betablocker might give you relief.

HiInteresting post as it is exactly what I am going through. The additional symptom I have is the weak (more of an odd sensation) in my legs etc. I know what you mean by using your muscle then it feels weak, like you have just done loads of excercise. The burning sensation in feet is odd for me though...My twitching started in November and I find myself constantly testing to see if I can walk on my toes, heels etc. I bet it looks stupid when I am in a shop but I do it constantly. I figure that if I had anything nasty then by now (9 months on) then it would have shown up. I do get tremors though, mainly in legs and twitches that only last a few secs then go, but come back later. I have my next neuro on Friday ;)I have posted a couple fo times about shaking so look them up ;)Stay well...
