Experiencing Unusual Symptoms?

Hi Ira,
The ratcheting and shaking you are describing does seem scary, doesn't it? Tremors and ratcheting were my two worst symptoms back in the day. Like you, I was convinced that I had something gravely wrong with me. Being a nurse, I knew no one who had described such bizarre symptoms without having some terrible disease.

It was one of the main reasons that when I found this board, I knew I was finally home, for there were so many others here who had described these strange jerky muscle movements as well as tremors. It was such a relief to know that it could all be associated with a goofy, benign little syndrome.

I'm self-diagnosed, though my pcp agrees with me that this is what I have. And, I had a neuro tell me that my fascics were benign once.

For me, the ratcheting has improved over time, and I only get it once in a while as opposed to every day in the beginning. It is the same thing with my tremors.

There, are you happy EyeoftheWild? ;) I came out of my winter hibernation just for you. What are you going to give me in return?

Blessings,
Sue

Ira,

I am ratchety in my hips, neck, biceps, shoulders, etc...I am alot like Sue, tremors and ratchet movements are the worse for me. If I do a bicep curl on the way down from curl my bicep jumps, non-smooth movement. My neck does this if I put chin to my chest and then I pull my neck up again. My hips do this when I am doing floor exercises..This is BFS, no worries. I like you thought this was a sign of some bad disease but guess what - IT IS NOT..please do not concentrate on this it will drive you crazy. In the beginning it was worse for me. If I used my shoulders they would go crazy with shakiness. Just reaching for my lamp on the side of my bed would cause ratchet movement all over my upper body. It has gotten better but I am left with the areas that I mention above still non-smooth movement. I do have to say to you and anyone that has this is to watch how you are holding your chest, and upper back. I was tense in those areas which made it much worse. I thought at one point that I was not tense because I was watching for it, but one day I noticed I still was holding myself in this tense state which was from anxiety. I am not saying this is from anxiety, I am saying it will make it much worse. I still am training myself not to hold my body in certain positions because I went through so much stress from BFS. I also found my hands and arms are moving better now because I also noticed I was holding them in a certain position everytime I used them. I did this because I was afraid to see the tremors or afraid to see how my fine movements were. Well now I do not do that and that is improving. Just sit tight it will get better, promise...God Bless and big hug..Jenn
