HiI wonder if anyone have experienced that some twitches can be produced? It scares me, because I read that twitches in ***, can easy be produced and some of my twitches can. Sometimes when I stretch my neck, my cheek or neck can twitch, and sometimes when I lean my elbows against my thighes - it twitch. And occasionally when Im making faces it produes some twitches. It really scares me and Im wondering (and hope) more people with have experienced it. Im so frightened. Also I have noticed that that is says here that the only way to rule out *** is a emg, is that true? I saw a neurologist and she looked at my body and testedmy reflex, strenght and so on. And she didn´t think I needed anymore examinations. But now im really sad if the only way to rule out ***is an emg. Then my visit was rather meaningless, it could be a very early stage of *** :crying: . Im panic-stricken here...

Hi,It is plenty of reports in this forum confirming that your experience is quite typical.I'am able to, despite the problem resolves by itself once the hot spot has diasappeared. It may take a vaiable lenght of time. Very variable indeed!

Ty for your posts.I tried to find any posts about this but I didn´t find any. This is really bodering me. You say that it is the so called "hotspots" where you can produce twitches from. Then I must have three hotspots at the same time, can it really be so? *beep* Im so worried, where can you produce twitches from? The thigh produces has been there for months, even though I never had the thighs as a hotspot until now. Right now my hole body is a hotspot thats whats scares me even more. When do you guys call a part for a hotspot? I mean I twitch from head to feets everyday. And during a day it can twitch more then one time in some places, is that a hotspot? Or is it a hotspot when it twitch at one singel place ALOT during the day.? Hope you have the time to help me, because I really need it :crying:

U have EXACTLY the kind of twitches I have. I twitch randomly through out my body the whole day- A HOTSPOT is a constant localized spot that can last for a few mins, hours, days weeks, months and years..(all can be benign). Infact. This may be disputed BUT.....I was told the coming of my twitches random w/ no hotspots is anxiety related...HOWEVER I still got the BFS dx. If your neuro has seen you- your fine. Im in the process of believing that myself lol I am a mess right now- but hon I promise.. IF and DONT DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT..you go to als forums you will see they have a lot more going on than random thumps here and there..AGAIN DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT GO. Just take my word for it.Lovely

4evaGirl, You are worried the only way to diagnose ALS is via EMG. That simply is not true. The first way is clearly the clinic examination, then if it is warranted or there is abnormal findings, they use the EMG to validate those findings. It is verbalized to me by more than one neuro, one being an ALS specialist, it is the clinical findings that suggest ALS, the EMG is just a diagnostic tool, which validates it, along with many other very specific tests. If the clinical exam is negative, there is no reason to have an EMG or anyother test.Terri

 whew! That is EXACTLY What my neuro said- She also said by the time one has "twitching" any kind- widespread especially a CLINCAL exam would ALWAYS pick it up..its not easy to MISS clinical weakness.Ditto to what Terri said...now drill that into my head 100 more times lol.Lovely

Swedish girl I know how you feel as I can make my inner thigh twitch/pulse/slightly cramp any time I have that hotspot going, especially can make it go after I get done squatting down and stand back up or after walking up stairs. I had a clinical exam 2 months ago that included strength, babinski, reflexes and everything came back normal. With ALS the twitching is because the muscle is dead or is dying and your muscle is denervating as it dies. This is why you will have some weakness and/or atrophy in the muscles that would be noticed during your clinical to go along with the fasics. In the last 8 weeks I have had 3 episodes in that same "hotspot" in my inner thigh, it is almost as if I have irritated the nerves or something, also I get fascis off and on pretty much throughout the day in the legs, shoulderblade and my eyelid. If it was ALS you wouldn't have just random twitching and things, you would have concentrated twitching in the same spot where the clinical weakness would have been noted and then an EMG would be performed. Trust me if the clinical is good, the doc will tell you I can get you an MRI or even an EMG if you really need some more reassurance, but if you can do day-to-day tasks and the twitching subsides/gets better and it may return we just have to live with this and it is very scary and I have panicked many times, but after the 3 episodes in 2 months I would say it's pretty safe that I and you will be ok adn we just have hotspots that will come and go with certain movements. Have a blessed one.

Wow Great posts today and DITTO to all those- even mine again ;) The EMG thing has been elaborated a lot on here which I see makes people nervous, but....as we've said...the NEUROS WE HAVE SEEN OURSELF have told US and OTHERS that THE CLINICAL IS THE KEY and the EMG is A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL in suspicions..OR for patient reassurance...etc.Lovely

Isn´t there someone else who has experienced this? I would really appreciate to hear it, because if not its not likely that it is BFS i have. I dont think its a easy provoced twitch if you walk up the stairs and it twitch after that, it often twitch after I have done any kind of exercise. Im really, really sad right now, my trouht/neck has start being weird again. It hurts and feels weird along with does other weird symtoms. Its feels like its going to be trouble swolling soon. And it feels like my neck its tierd from holding up the head :crying: I cant stand this anymore

Hi swedishI experience more activity after using my muscles. Sometimes it can be almost "quiet" in the morning and the just after walking to the bathroom it is crazy with twitches. I saw many people in here have the same problem. I didn't go to the gym since it all started bc. of this, but just began again. The first days the twitching were worse, but now it's the same again and the workout feels great for both body and soul.I haven't had an emg either, but after 2,5 years I can still function. Try to be rational about it, even if it is difficult, have been there too. :D)
