Experiencing Tingling/Burning: BFS or Neuropathy?

Has anyone experienced tingling and burning sensations around the ankles and soles of feet and also hands? I have been diagnosed with BFS by a good neuro, and indeed I have many of the classic symptoms -- fasciculations; exercise intolerance, general fatigue -- but the tingling/burning in hands and feet cause me to wonder about neuropathy. Any thoughts and experiences appreciated. I'm new to the forum.

Welcome! And yes I have the same kind of things going on and so does alot of the other BFS'rs on here, Have you had an EMG done? They will let you know if it's neuropathy or not. But my uneducated guess would be BFS ;) God BlessRandy

My EMGs have been normal, but as you know, small-fiber neuropathies, such as those found in alcoholism and early diabetes, do not show up on an EMG. Glad to hear, though that somebody else with BFS experiences the burning/tingling in the extremities. Very irksome symptom, isn't it?!

I've had permanent tingling in my hands and feet since this began nearly 3 yrs ago. I have started to get very hot soles since the early winter - which has been great  as I usually suffer from freezing feet, which I have to warm up on my husband. So he's very pleased with this symptom! Although I'm not looking forward to the summer when I may have to put some socks in the freezer!DB

Tingling in my feet - definitely. Used to get tingly sensations in my hands, specifically fingers, but that was way before the onset of twitching.

Yeah I get this in the burning sensation in the middle of my palms and in the arches of my feet I think it is called peripheral neurapathy or somting I cannot spell it, still have not seen a doctor yet?

Just for the record, it is not called Peripheral Neuropathy unless your emg was dirty for it. A clean EMG also means no Peripheral Neuropathy. This symptom comes with BFS, it comes with Anxiety, it comes from poor circulation. Lets not throw around more diseases for newbies to worry about having. If you have seen a neuro and they have not brought these things up as being responsible for your symptoms, then you simply do not have them.Take careRobynn :D)

Mommy is right. Neuropathy will show up on the emg, even mild cases. My emg did show mild pn about 15 months ago. I have felt the burning hands and feet for a few months now. Nothing disabling or anything, just annoying. Bottom line, if emg didnt show it, then it is something that can totally go away once your body gets back in order.

Dear Appletwitches,This link is to one of the better and more authoritative articles about impaired glucose tolerance (aka prediabetes) and its association with small fiber sensory neuropathy. To offer a little comfort, however, my endochrinologist, the head of a diabetes clinic at a major metro hospital, told me that it would be unusal for pre-diabetes to cause SFN in someone with normal A1C, c-peptides, lipid panel and near-normal fasting glucose, so you might want to have that blood work done, in addition to having a 2-hr oral glucose tolerance test. I've been driving myself crazy trying to ascertain for sure what causes my tingling in feet and hands -- pre-diabetes? BFS? compressed nerves in lower back and neck? Even wine consumption, although moderate for me, is now causing me to wonder if that's the cause. At this point, I've given up and just try to take care of myself. I did have a skin biopsy done to measure in my lower calf epidermal nerve fiber density and the result was low-normal two years ago, suggestive of SFN, according to Therapath, NY, NY., the lab that does the test.Good luck to you.

Yeh been getting get all of this stuff on and off for about 40 years! Actually before the twitching started, so dont think it is related to BFS. Just some nerve thing going on. Sometimes things just happen, no rhyme nor reason except the fact we are living organisms and things happen. If you analysed everything 'weird' that happened to your body, you would quickly become a cot case. And focusing on it just makes it appear worse...I learnt that along time ago. Move on and it will move on...for sure. cheersRodger

Thank you for the replies, the weird tingling feelings in my hands and feet have had me going crazy with worry recently. I really is a great help to hear that it's not always a big deal.
