Experiencing Spasm Above Sternum

Not sure if any of you guys have had this before but I've gotten such good support / advice from this site before I figured who better to ask. I had a bad scare with BFS a few years ago but have been doing great and no longer worry about it.For a couple of years now I would get a random "spasm" feeling right above my sternum that would interfere with my breathing for a split second. It would usually happen while I was laying down or at rest. When it would happen is would only last a moment and then be gone for an hour or a couple of days. It was very random. It felt as if I skipped a breath or something.About a month ago while hanging out with some friends it happened again but this time much worse. We were sitting around talking and I got the feeling again only this time it last maybe 10 seconds, I felt light headed and was very scared. Over the past month the symptoms have come more often, still usually while at rest but has also happened while running. I went in for my yearly check out a couple of weeks ago and mentioned this to the doctor, I had mentioned it in the past as well. She didnt seem very concerned (but whats new with doctors??). She did an ekg and all was normal. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this or knows anything about what I'm talking about.

Marcus,I totally get this (or something very similar). Mine usually happen when I'm laying down. It feels like my breathing pauses for a split second and I get a quick rush of panic. I'm relatively new to BFS (only 3 months) but I started getting this about a year ago. Lately, I've seen a correlation between my level of anxiety and these sensations. On the nights where I couldn't sleep, the breathing thing was driving me crazy. On the more calm nights, I don't notice it as much. -Matt

Hi Marcus. Sorry you are having this symptom. Just wanted to let you know that we used to have a member here last year who went by the name Christian88. He absolutely had this symptom and had pretty extensive testing for it with his neuro and also out at the Mayo Clinic. It never turned out to be anything bad, and he is doing alot better these days. You can look up his posts on here, but as I said these days he is fine.He doesnt come to this site much anymore but I do have him on my facebook, so if you would like to share some PMs with him, just let me know, and I will tell him to visit here to check for messages. Here is a couple of his posts about it:Hope this helps some. Take careRobynn :D)
