Experiencing Shooting Pains: Advice?

Hi Amanda,
I get the same shooting pains occasionally, especially when I used to self-test for L'hermittes every five seconds, lol.

A friend of mine who has *s described his L'hermittes to me, and it was nothing like what I experienced. Trust me, I'm not going to tell you what he told me about it because in your current state you might reproduce it, but it is unmistakable.

In addition, there are lots of things that can create that particular symptom aside from *s. It can be caused by foraminal narrowing, degenerative disc disease, bone spurs of the spine, etc.

I can't tell you how many *s symptoms I talked myself into once I was convinced I had *s. Yet I don't have *s, I don't have *s, I dont' have *s, and neither do you.

Please try to relax and stop self-testing. Trust your doctors who have said you are well and whole, okay?

Blessings, prayers and hugs,
Sue

I also was able to produce the same shocks by testing myself for L'Hermitte's just as Sue said... I was bending my neck in all sorts of weird ways about every 10 seconds for 2 days straight...

I can understand the panic you are going through right now. Ive done it myself... what I found helped was getting out a notebook and writing down all the reasons to believe that you are ok. And write out the statistics showing the odds are completely against you for having MS. For example, you should write down all the tests you had done that came back negative. Write down everything the doctor said to you regarding the fact that you dont have MS. As for the Stats, this is what I always wrote:

Odds of getting MS in your lifetime are 1 in 800. Of those 95% had abnormal MRIs (so only 5% did not) Also early onset before the age of 25 is only like 5% as well. so doing the math that gives you a .0003125% chance of having MS. I dont even think that can be regarded as significant in any way.

Also do this: What would you tell someone else going through what you are going through right now. And try to apply that to yourself. Im panicky about MS as well. And these are the things that have helped me. Its worth a try...

Good luck...
