Experiencing Joint Pains with Illness?

Hi,
I made the mistake of going of *** site where I found that contrary to the beliefs that there is no pain in this illness, there are people who experience significant muscle fatigue/pain or joint pains etc... and some even before their diagnosis (?).
Does anyone here have joint pains - shoulder, knee, hip etc ...?
Mine started in one shoulder, went to the same side knee and then to a different side knee. There is also some upper arm and calf pain.
I still seem to pass the strength tests but the pains are more often and I am wondering if the lack of strength is also showing up as some muscle aches.
THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCES - I AM TERRIFIED.
Best Regards.

Wow. I have to admit to being a little frightened by your post. Please see my post of a month ago called Pain/Weakness in Areas of Highest Concentrated Twitching to see my own struggles with joint pain, and wondering if it is really weakness that I'm not recognizing due to the pain.

Did the sites you went to indicate that this was a common symptom? I really think that this would have come up here if this was something truely associated with ALS. I don't doubt that there are some individuals that have experienced this (maybe it was even completely unrelated to the ALS), but I have never heard of it being linked to ALS. I have not had any pain migration as you describe it.

Although I've admitted some initial anxiety about your post, I think that's just the fear part of this (for me BFS HAS to be related to stress) getting out of hand. I don't truely think this is anything we should be concerned about.

How long have you been twitching? Have you been to a neuro and/or had an exam/EMG?

Been twitching for 5 months. Visited a top NM specialist 4 times with normal exam. He did not feel EMG was needed.
He does not believe pain is a part of any NM disease. According to him, if the pain would be due to weakness then he would find the weakness (but I have my doubts since the patients themselves have experienced something else).
It is possible that in some people pain may be there without having any correlation with any disease but I do know that in certain cases, it is truely there (cases like shoulder pain due to weak muscles in the glenohumeral area but in such cases the pain would be excruciating and can lead to a subluxed shoulder).
Although I do think sometimes that if the muscles were really weak in the joint areas, the mobility would be somewhat affected (besides the strength).

I have pain along with twitching too. My knees and elbows ache so bad especially after squatting and going up the stairs. I told my neuro and he didn't say anything.

i know that this has been hashed before, but lyme disease causes muscle pain, joint pain, bfs,so check it out as a reversable neuro condition....
eric
ps pain is not a part of als that i am aware...

Well, I do not live in an area with lyme, so I do not think that is the issue. My wife also started twitching about 3 months before I did.

There are conflicting stories about pain. I do not what is true anymore.

Frankly, pain is body's way of telling that something's wrong... I hope that pain only comes as a part of twitching but that's only experienced by some not others it seems ?
