I have been viewing this website for 2 plus years and have found it very helpful. I would like to describe my experience and get some feedback.
In June of 2005 I noticed that the thumb and index finger on my left hand began to twitch randomly throughout the day. This continued for weeks. I finally decided to "Google" finger twitching and we all know where that led to. I, like many others, became frantic with the possibility that I had developed the a-word. The twitching then spread to most areas of my body. These twitches would only strike one body part at time, a twitch in the arm, then a hand, then my chest etc. Never were there multiple twitches at the same time. No buzzing, pinging, nibbling etc, just twitches. All of the twitches were visible. A neuro exam, MRI,(2) Lyme tests and (2) emg's later I recived the diagnoses of BFS. Over the next two years I would experience an occasional twitch in the thumb or body part but nothing major. I continued to lift weights, run etc. I am a law enforcement officer and have to take a PT Test quarterly. No problem with passing the PT (physical training) tests at all.
Fast forward to October, 2007. While lying in bed I noticed my right shoulder began to ache, then both legs felt like they had been put through a marathon, a headache began (which re-occurred daily for 2 weeks) then the twitching started. This time both legs were involved with mutiple visible twitches, smaller invisible "nibbles" and "pings" and the left thumb twitch re-engaged. The leg aches continued, non stop, for 2 weeks. the shoulder ache would come and go, one day achy the next day good. Then the legs began to buzz while lying in bed at night. I am also having multiple full body jolts while trying to go to sleep. A trip to a new Neuro, for second opinion, included a neuro exam and complete blood work, too includes Lymes. Everything looked normal to the Doctor, he confirmed the previous diagnosis of BFS. However, he did schedule another emg for later this week. Just to "put this thing to rest"
Here are my questions.
1) Can you get a clean emg while your legs are twitching ? My legs twitch
constantly and the thumb on the left hand goes on and off all day ?
2) The aching legs ? Is this common with BFS ?
3) The on again off again shouler pain or joint pain ? Is this common ?
4) Does BFS or the thought of **S make us or me an obsessive
compulsive ?
5) How do I get past this lingering thought in the back of my mind ?
Also, the three weeks leading up to this emg test I have been constantly testing myself. I run 2.5 miles every 3 days, I lift weight (fairly heavy) to test my strength, constantly walking on my toes and heels, jumping up, and down on one leg etc....
I guess I am looking for a shoulder to cry on. Any feedback would be appreciated.
thanks
