EMG test results: All Clear

Hi all.Just wanted to say that my EMG today was fine. Dont know the full details, accept that the only issue was an old injury which was detected at L5.Needless to say im really relieved. I cannot express how utterly convinced i was that something ominous would be found. For those who are interested in the details, the exam was carried out by Professor David Holder at the Spire hospital, Leicester, UK.Prof. Holder visits the hospital twice a week and is usually resident at UCL London. He trained at Cambridge, UK, then did his Phd at Berkley in California. He carried out a nerve conduction test followed by the EMG. He started in my right foot, then ankle, calf, shin , quad, stomach, chin, cheek, hand and arm.It was far less painful and intrusive than i was expecting. What a bonus. And what an absolute gentleman. His experience and knowledge was extremely reassuring. He had started by saying that he would not pass any results at the end, but would examine the report and then report back to the consultant. However at the end of the exam, he explained that everything was fine and that he was happy to give good news and if it had been bad he would of left it to the consultant!!!So, for those UK members who are perhaps considering having an EMG, i would personally be happy to highly recommend this man. And he is accessible through Spire (BUPA) healthcare. Or stick his name in Google. Finally, and most importantly, thank you to my new friends on this site. You have been a source of comfort, knowledge and understanding that has seen me through a truly awful part of my life. You have equipped me with the strength and ability to deal with BFS and accept it for what it is.Dave. X

Thank you both...Yes so relieved. As for shin, he wasn't sure, but thought maybe what you had mentioned, ie the over rubbing... A very good call you!!!X

Hey Chrissi, we need to start the right leg club!!! He purposely started with that leg as he knew it was my main concern. At the end he asked if i would mind if he repeated the conducting test again on my ankle, which i thought was bad, until he said " Mmmm as i thought, as you array a sportsman i think you should know you have an injury at L5. Dont worry though, you'll probably never notice it"So there we are. I'll take that diagnosis any day! :)

But my right arm joined in with the same feeling and actually that feeling is very common here on the board, so I rather go for a muscle entrapment which can cause the same pattern. It would be strange if all those people on the board would have an injury at L5 not visible on MRI.

Excellent news Dave..congrats...and as my granny used to say..get out there enjoy life and blow the stink off ya......hugs shanny

Hahaha, j_sageurge!! Add me to the club. I have strange feelings in my right leg (like we discussed, Chrissi) and my EMG showed problems at L5. (Also it showed problems at C7 for my left arm.)

Another fellow member of the right leg club here. 98% of my issues are in my right leg, especially the bulk of my twitching and sensory problems. I know for a fact I have issues at L5, so for the most part I chalk them up to that. As for the leg hair, I must have some serious nerve issues because I hardly have any. You have to look really hard to find any hair on my legs, and I'm pretty sure it's not from rubbing them. Makes me think of a friend of mine who wears boots to work every day. When I see him at the swimming pool in the summer he has zero hair everywhere his boots touch, even though the rest of him looks like a bear skin rug.

Well to look on the plus side, its going to save me a fortune on waxing!!! Or i could use the money on getting my buttocks hairless !!! :D) Right, the official "L5" club is born. 07/02/12 will go down in history! As long as its not a case of hair today, gone tomorrow !?

Yippeee, Yahoooo, Hooray!!!!! What great news, Dave! I'm so happy for you. So many of us know what you've been through, and it really is awful. I'm hoping you can go out and celebrate!!!Mitra

WOOOOHOOOO dave that's great news :)My neuro wants to refer me to London to a neuromuscular specialist and I'll suggest your man to him on my next visit in march :) Are you having regular checkup's with your neuro? Kate :D)
