EMG Results: Nerves of Steel?

I have my EMG tomorrow and of course my twitching is out of control (mostly in my calf). The twitching in my arm and shoulder has subsided a bit but now my calf is on fire  I am soooo incredibly nervous about the EMG! Eventhough, I should not be... my neuro had guaranteed me that I don't have *** but I am still so scared. He's using the EMG for my peace of mind and to officically DX BFS. HE even made me wait 6 weeks- to prove nothing serious was wrong and will perform the EMG in his office tomorrow.

Any advice before I get my EMG? What will it feel like? Etc...

thanks guys!

Kristinz,

My advice would be to relax. I know how anxiety packed these types of tests can be, because I was almost paralyzed with anxiety before all three of my emg's. I think it is normal to get a bit anxious, but don't let it get you down. By this time tomorrow, you will have proof that you don't have als :D) . That is something to celebrate.....but dang it is hard to get over the anxiety.

Anyway, you will do great and your test will be normal. For what to expect during the exam, I have to say it isn't that bad. For me, the ncv portion was worse than the needle part, but neither was bad. You just a few "pin pricks" and some slight electrical shocks, but nothing bad.

I would suggest tonight that you have a glass of wine or a beer depending on your preference, and spend some good quality time with someone you care about. That should get your mind of the worry. Tomorrow will be a great day for you.

Take care, and good luck.

Gary

Gary-

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I hope tomorrow to be able to begin to get on with the rest of my life. :D) The fear has been paralyzing. However, I'm hoping a little positive energy and a great attitude it buond to help tomorrow!

Take care, Kristin

Kristin,

I hope your EMG goes well tomorrow. I was in the same place you are one year ago. My neuro also told me no ALS but that I could have an EMG if I wanted one. I passed at first only to go ahead and get one a month later. It was clean - just as the neuro virtually guaranteed me it would be. For some reason, I don't think he would have so confidently predicted a clean EMG if he had any doubt from my clinical picture.

You'll be in my prayers tonight.

Johnny
