Hi allI have just come back from my doctors and he told me that he has the letter from my Neuro about my EMg, he read it out and it said that it "showed minor abnormalities, with no clinical significance"So of course i pushed him on this and he just dodged it and said its fine.....So i truly am back to square one now! i have really bad twitching and a dirty EMG, not the best combination in the world. :( chris

yes my right calf is significantly smaller than my left, its about 3/4 inch smaller when i flex it, you can see the muscle is a completely different shape and size, and thats where i twitch all the time.As for weakness my calf get so so tired when i walk and it gets so sore.chris

A fasciculation found during a EMG can be a sign of MINOR ABNORMALITIES, Dont jump to conclusions please. - your neuro would not have told you ALS even if there was a "INKLING" of als lurking..Get your report- Then again- Maybe call your neuro and ask why he said NORMAL with the statement on the EMG being different. I know my EMG is posted on here some whereI will dig it up for you- basically it said no evidence of dennervation or reinnervation , no slow potentials etc that are compatible with ALS etc or any NMD- you have to becareful- said dx is still compatible with BFS. That should be OH SO COMFORTING but I found glitches were I thought "OH NO" like listed one fasciculation upon exertion of right calve but fasciculation appeared normal in absence of blah blah potentials. YOU CANT DECIPHER THESE THINGS ON YOUR OWN. Call your NEURO and get him to EXPLAIN.Please so you can enjoy your holidays. In my thoughts and prayers- Lovely

Chris, I wanted to say something- When I picked up my first NEUROLOGICAL EXAM report which was just the in office neuro exam- My reflexes were 3 plus (slightly brisk) which was a minor abnormality (which she considered normal) BECAUSE they were symmetrical and I was through the roof with anxiety- but it CLEARLY SAID "NO CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE , and is NOT PATHOLOGICAL" You have to read between the lines- If I was you call tomorrow and pursue this gray area he left you in, but its just for your own good- I know your ok.Lovely

chris - minor abnormalities does not mean anything. my doctor told me that. if they see fasciculations, they'll put minor abormalities. NOTHING to worry about! Feel good... we now we fasciculate, but only some of us get it seen on the EMG. My EMG saw mine as well.

i phoned up my neuro but he is off till the 29th but spoke to his secretary for 25 mins on phone, she got my results up and assured me that there is no evidence of ALS, she quoted BFS again. She is going to get him to ring me on the 29th but she assured me about 5 times lol that i am ok!I have to believe them dont i??Chris

Chris my love, my sweetheart (cyber only ofcourse , dont want your wife to get mad @ me) but YES believe as I have to believe. THEY CANNOT LIE TO YOU - They CANNOT make you believe your ok til after the holidays- or your birthday- I promise you- Its either good nor bad- they dont hold out on you .. Enjoy your holidays Please. I know its hard- trust me my legs feel like jello...SUCKS but hopefully its a virus as this doc suggested today or its just bfs- but in April after EMG I was told NO ALS PERIOD-Question: Where did they stick ya? Did the Neuro do it? (none of that matters I am just always curious)

they stuck me in my calf, my knee my anke my foot, and all over my arm, and it was a technician who did it, but he said he sees all ALS patients from our area

Then you must believe my friend- that is a adequate EMG and well done . I know its easier said than done to believe as I struggle with my legs feeling weak for the past week but I remind myself CLEAN EMG and CLINICAL and then 2 clean clinicals today- its just "percieved"Lovely

Chris,I don't think this is a concern. For example, my left calve is nearly 3/8 inch smaller than my right. When I first measured it I totally panicked and got whacked out. That was nearly 4 years ago - guess what? They are still the same size...when I'm working out they get larger but proportionately so."Dirty emg" - no they said no clinical significance so that's that.Mark

Chris, I mean this in the most caring way possible. You need to get your anxiety under control. Go see a shrink and get some sort of Benzo help. Xanax, Clonazepam...whatever.GL Dude,Scott

The evidence is overwhelming that with this condition, seeking medical diagnostic tests (besides clinical exams) is 30% “reassuring,” 65% useless, and in 5% a contributing factor to further needless anxiety. I never had an EMG and after reading about them on this site for 3.5 years, I’m confident it was the right decision.

there are many reasons that you could have clinically insignificant "abnormalities" on emg and still be fine....In fact, my neuro at Baylor said that he sees people with fascics and fibs along with other issues that still have a benign dx. I actually had fibs in my back, fascics in multiple areas and decreased recruitment in my triceps......guess what, benign fascics. If your doc tells you that you don't have a serious illness, believe him/her. Do, however, get some help with the anxiety. it really is the worst part of this condition. Take care,Gary
