EMG Results: Half-Relieved

Hi guys,After one month and a half of 24/7 between thumb and index twitching, I just came back from my EMG (my neuro said I should do it, not me) and I am only half relieved...I was expecting to go home feeling much better but the doctor did not give me a 100% result. He just said that it seemed clean but he needed to take a closer look and asked me to see him on Friday to get the final results....Isn't that strange? Why couldn't he just say it was clean? Isn't obvious when it isn't? everybody else in this board seemed to get the results on the same day. Why would he make me go back there just for that? Specially since he knows about my anxieties... He did say some reassuring things like "so far so good" a couple of times... and he did start to ask me about my thyroid hormones and said my hand fasciculations (which the EMG did not miss btw) could be due to that... but then he added "of course... this is in a best case scenario"humpf... not very happy right now.

i had 2 emg's and both were same as yours, the neuro said it looks normal but final result takes about a week. If they saw something out of line they wouldn't have said anything to you, they wouldn't risk it. You should take comfort in that. Stay postive and enjoy the rest of your week.

I may have the same hot spot as yours. Does it occur in the fleshy part of the palm? And beats really fast like a heart beat and looks like it's spasming? Does your thumb feel stiff while it's happening? I get this and it last for days nonstop... usually happens once every 2-3 months especially when I'm stressed and fatigued and during my menstrual cycle (sometimes before, during or right after). I chalk it up on electrolyte imbalance but I think it has something to do with poor circulation (It seems the tiny arteries are aggravated easily and pushes against the nerves-like nerve compression causing it to twitch super fast).

I think the doctors may take a closer look at things before giving you a definite diagnosis. They always write up a full report. I really would not worry too much about this. I saw one neurologist who wouldn't give me my brain MRI results over the phone. I had to go into the office to get them. It was normal. Some doctors are just like that.

mhm that is annoying.Pretty common though.... I had two appointments scheduled a month apart to follow up and get reults.I think its so they can charge you(or ur insurance) 2 consultancy fees instead of one.

thanks for your posts, I'm better now, I think the paranoia and anxiety got me going to the worst conclusions possible... It is amazing how I can focus only on the bad things and forget all the good things the doctor said... So I'm sticking to the "everything seems fine" and waiting until Friday for the final results... let you know!

Great news, I finally got the "you do not have ALS" from my neuro! I really really needed that, and he had not said it yet so.. :D) I still have to do the MRI and a few other tests, but I'm going to see if I can get my life back now. I can live with the twitches and the sensory stuff now that I know that I am fine. Merry Christmas to all and thanks for the support!

I can't believe doctors can be such huge jerks, what's "of course... this is in a best case scenario" supposed to mean, even if a doctor suspects bad stuff they have to reassure the patient or at least hide their thoughts until they get evidence for their suspicion, first of all they look like asses when they're wrong and second they generate pointless anxiety in patients. I got the "you might have MS" treatment before my MRI and messed me up for a week until i got the result, then the same doctor said i don't have MS, i changed my neurologist after this. I'm so glad you're fine.
