well my neuro did the tests today and checked many areas (hands, forearms, upper arms, shoulders, back, neck, feet, calves, and thighs). both the tests said all was fine. my one hand said there is maybe a slight carpal tunnel (from the nerve test). the nerves and emg tests were both good.
i did ask a ton of questions and here are some of them.
he said for ALS patients, he can generally tell as soon as they walk in the door and he examines them. he did say i have bfs and it is more common than people think. he said that throat/tongue issues come more likely in the later stages. if you can control the saliva by moving it and are able to swallow, then that is a good sign. he said for weakness, if your arm is tired w/a bad disease, then it stays tired for good. he mentioned that if you have some disease like these, it will show up on these tests and from his exam. he said that anxiety/stress control, little or no caffeine, and a consistent sleep pattern will do wonders for your overall health (most know this anyways).
the emg test was not bad at all. the needle stick was like a small pinch. the nerve test was worse. the jolts you get are weird, especially the ones on the back of your elbow and knee.
i am relieved to have this done. i have been twitching for over 3 years and recently my hand pain sent me for a loop. both hands still hurt, some days no pain. it feels more like joint pain. either way, i have to find a way to get on w/my life and quit obsessing about this. easier said than done.
