EGD: Results and Biopsy

Well, I had may EGD done this morning.

I didn't see the doctor aftewards, but got a photo image of my esoph. and know that I have esophageal erosions and a small stomach ulcer.

I don't know if this would cause my swallowing issues or not.

I see my doc for a complete follow up in 4 weeks.

Oh, they also took a biopsy.

Ginny, I assume you mean you had an endoscopy. The biopsy is routine as they look for that H. pylori bacterium, I think it is called which causes ulcers. Gastric reflux definitely can cause throat issues including the lump feeling. I have GERD which is quite nicely under control, but have had several endoscopies done. I'd imagine you will be put on something for the erosions and ulcer. Send me a PM if you would like, I just figured this is a quicker way to reach you as those PM's do not seem to be instant - or maybe it is just my computer.

I've had several endoscopies done as well, and yes, small erosions, sometimes really small ones, cause more symptoms than their size might indicate. Swallowing problems are among the potentials, along with globus--that lump in the throat feeling. You didn't have any strictures, which is good. Also, they take biopsies as a standard measure, to look for any pre-cancerous cells whether they see lesions or not.

You'll probably get put on something like Prilosec, and get a followup endoscopy every couple years. Nothing to fear...

Did you get tested for H Pylori? Most likely you were even if they did not tell you. That bacterium can contribute to ulcers, and is easy to eradicate if found.
