Effects of Lower Spine on Calves & Feet

At a recent review with my neuro I asked him why in many cases are the calves affected the most. He put forward the theory that it might be related to degeneration of the lower spine which could affect the nerves that run down the legs and into the feet which would also explain why many people experience symptoms in their feet. Outwardly you might not be exhibiting symptoms of lower back trouble but small amounts of pressure on the nerves could dictate which muscles are affected by the twitching. It was then suggested that another reason the calves are affected was because they are subjected to heavy workloads i.e. when walking etc. I also enquired as to why the symptoms seemed to ease when walking as opposed to resting, when very often they appear to be worse, and he said it might be something as simple as an increase in blood flow.

As for those who experience twitching predominately in their arms then maybe this could be as a result of degeneration higher up the spine. At the end of the day all this is just conjecture but there might be some truth in part of it.

When it comes to those who complain of tongue twitches maybe they just talk to much, not that I've anyone particular in mind you understand.

Hi Stevepaul:

I don't know if you saw this thread:

but it seemed like your territory. If you look at the bottom of pg. 1 you will find a post by Jodi about PNH.

Cheers,

My vote goes to MarkS or maybe Dave y or...
