Dopamine Receptors & SSRIs

Thanks Dave! I appreciate your note :)

I couldn't find the specific site on the downregulation of dopamine receptors during SSRI's. I googled the terms and came up with various sites. I could very well just be parroting what someone else has said. Heck, give me the upregulator pill or whatever it is that makes these go away.

I do know that I often feel like I'm low on dopamine. My twitching subsides when I have a good dopamine response (think a good beer buzz, sex/orgasm, or whatever it is that makes you feel gooooood). Heck, maybe it's serotonin... I don't know. I just know I feel like I've upset the balance of the Universe in my head/body.

Anyway, it's been a while since I've seen my GP. I'll have to explain my whole situation over to him again.

Here's my inital report.

The Propranolol is quite a trip. I took 20mg today and basically it took the heavy feeling off my chest. I'm fairly anxiety prone, so this was really nice. I'd like to try it while I'm sniping an eBay auction, or some other private anxiety riddled situation to see if it helps me relax. It was really nice today to have that anxiety feeling gone without feeling high.

The jury is still out on the Requip. It seems to have improved my moods/depression and quieted the buzzing/twitching some. Although I still twitch. I'll be on a full RLS dose in a few days (still working my way up on this trial). So more on that later.

I know it's tough for everyone, the twitching that is. Why wont it just go away, you say? How cool would it be to be normal again? Do I have ALS, PD, MS, ???... all questions I think many of us say to ourselves everyday... at least I hear them echoing through my head. The twitching has helped me to live in the moment.... although I do wish my twitching would just go away... and I think being normal is a fallacy. If it wasn't twitching, it'd be something else.

more later... my guitar is calling me. :)

Had my neuro appt.

Requip didn't help. Mirapex didn't help.

My neuro was very convinced that the benign facics are NOT caused by an overactive immune system. He gave me a script for Carbatrol. I'm nervous to take it after reading the literature that accompanied the trial/sample.

He also was quick to dismiss the SSRI withdrawal link.... pfft.

Anyway... Anyone know of a good doc that will prescribe Low dose naltrexone?

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of BFS being caused by SSRI withdrawl. I had been on Celexa for a couple years and then was off it for about 2 years. After that 2 year period of being off of it, I developed BFS. Now I'm back on it and I hardly notice the BFS anymore.

Coming off SSRIs will wiyhout a doubt cause that "ELECTRIC,BUZZING"etc., In you head and body. I usally get it when I move my eyes in different directions. I have found if you stay off the meds it will usally subside in a couple of weeks or so. What causes this, I have no idea. It will also go away if you go on a differnt type of depression med. Its really amazing that we can all desribe these crazy symptoms here, But tell a doctor and they look at you like youve got two heads
