Does BFS Cause Anxiety?

I just asked this to someone in a PM but, I would really like to see what everyone else thinks as well. Ok here it is..... Does BFS itself cause anxiety, in a sense produce anxiety feelings and symptoms OR, do people with BFS have anxiety because they are really freaked out and bothered by the symptoms they are having??As I told the person in my PM, think about this before you answer. I'm really curious to see what everyone thinks about this.Just so my opinion is out there, I personally feel that anxiety is actually a side effect to BFS, and then that anxiousness is made worse by our thought process on our other symptoms. But thats just my opinion. And that is because I can go days without freakin out about my symptoms but I still have a panic attack or severe anxious feelings that are brought on by things as simple as someone knocking on my door, or someone yelling unexpectedly. It just seems like every nerve in my body is really awake and raw.Let me know what you guys think, I'm just curious. Thanks everyone, Huggs to all. :)

I believe anxiety is a real symptom. I never used to be a super anxious person, but at the height of my twitching I felt restless. I could not just sit on the couch and enjoy a movie. I had to get up during commercial breaks and move around. I just could not sit. When I thought my twitching was stress related, I saw a hypnotherapist to learn some self meditation techniques. When I practiced these techniques, I always felt more calm immediately afterward. The anxiety always returned though, and all too quickly. It was not me just freaking out. It was then that I knew it was a genuine medical symptom of my BFS. My mental state was not taking me into the anxiety, it was my body taking me into the anxiety. For those of you who have never pursued an answer to your twitching by looking into your diet, here is a link with medical research showing how anxiety, depression and other mood disorders have been directly linked to food sensitivities, in this case particularly gluten:Here is another link that has medical research showing how food sensitivities (in this case gluten again) has been linked to ataxia (muscular control disorders):I'm not saying this is what everyone here has, but it is what I was experiencing and it may explain your symptoms as well. Take care all.

Thanks Bond007 for responding, and I'm glad you got what I was saying, I was having trouble with the wording because I wanted people to understand what I meant about BFS causes anxiety, or people just become anxious because of there symptoms. Thanks again, and I am going to read up on your links as well.

Where has science proven that it is?? I have been looking for something that states this about BFS and havnt been able to come up with much. Can you send me something or point me in the rite direction?? Thanks again for taking the time to post

Already have. See the first link in my above post. BFS is a broad and all encompassing diagnosis that basically means 'we don't know what you have but its not MS, ALS or Parkinsons.' I was diagnosed with BFS for this reason, as were many of you on this forum. Just because we have been diagnosed with BFS doesn't mean we don't have something though. These symptoms are real. Our bodies are trying to tell us something, practically screaming it at us actually. In my case, I was fortunate enough to determine the root cause of my symptoms. The anxiety, twitching, and other neurological symptoms were all being caused by a newly developed set of food sensitivities, which themselves were caused by Candida. The links I referenced above document how the neurological muscular symptoms and anxiety are directly related to food sensitivities, especially gluten. I keep mentioning this because there are a lot of likely candidates on this forum.

Ya I tried reading those links but a little too much medical verbage for me to grasp ahold of right now, and words like ataxia really scare me rite now.

I had bad anxiety from BFS. I was scared to death as to what it was and what was causing it. After 16 months I still wonder what the heck it really is but I am much better with the anxiety these days.

Please don't interpret my intent to be confrontational. I understand you were answering the question. I just wanted to make a point for others to consider when reading, that is all. And yes, we are in agreement on syndrome meaning the doctor is saying 'I don't know.' Especially when it comes to BFS.

My Neuro wont even acknowledge BFS dxs. He said that there are people with benign fasiculations but he acted like he was amused when I said could I have BFS. He acted like it was something that someone with severe anxiety made up or something.

Alot of neuros don't call it BFS. Most just say "benign faciculations". The one neuro I went to was very familiar with Cramp Facicuation Syndrome which to me is the same thing as BFS only with cramps so there are doctors out there more knowledgeable about this. I actualy think you are better off going to a neuromusclular specialist. I think they really know more about this than regular neurologists.

Mine started around the most stressful time of the school year for me. BUT I also got a sinus infection and a Staph infection at the same time. Mine started the weekend I got back from Vegas after a long weekend of drinking and on anitbiotics. However, I had stiffness and cramping 2 weeks before the spasms started. Now I have a mild cramp here and there and some stiffness that comes and goes. I wonder what set mine off. I was also taking something called ZIJA- I think it may have depleted me or caused some of this problem. I have chronic sinus infections and have had a staph infection and never gotten spasms but the only thing new to my agenda was the diet drink/pill ZIJA. HOWEVER, AFTER GETTING ON DR GOOGLE I CONVINCED MY SELF I HAD 2 YEARS TO LIVE AND BOY DID THE SPASMS TAKE OFF!!!!!!!!! I HAVE HAD ONE TODAY. I really encourage everyone here to check with your dr but to take Magnesium and stop all artificial sweetners to see if that helps. It did me and amazing difference.

Here is an article about my dad's doctor who diagnosed him with BFS. If this guy believes in BFS then all other neuros should too. I do think we have different things that set off BFS but it is still BFS. My neuro warmed up to Fibromylagia and didn't really think anything of BFS. I know I do not have fibro. Sorry. I have sore spots here and there but not crippling pain.

I clicked on that link and didnt see where it said anything about BFS. My Neuro acknowledges BFS just not all the symptoms that come with it, he thinks its all anxiety. He doesnt consider it a syndrome I guess, just that people do have benign fasiculations.

The article is just talking about the guy who diagnosed my dad. He is a world renown neuro. My BFS has mimiced my dad for the most part. My neuro rolled his eyes about BFS and thought how can one dr believe in it and others don't. Why?

Anxiety can't cause such cluster of symptoms ... especially when it happens during LONG vacations I acknowledge that you can twitch from time to time ... and ONLY twitch and that some degree of stress can make things a little bit worst, call it BFS if you want ... but it is NOT only twitches, there is a CLUSTER of other symptoms It is NOT because ACTUAL tests done now don't see anything that there is nothing. The tests are just NOT good enough at the present time. One time it was said that stress was the cause of "stomach ulcers" ... and now it is in fact a bacteria, in the majority of cases. My brother in law was finally cured by that discovery.
