does anyone else have muscle knots in their calves.Have a lot of tightness in that area that i have to get massaged regularly. This is a bit off topic, when you breath, is it shallow?.Apparantly breathing properly can have a major effect on your muscles as it allows for waste products to be expelled properly from the musle tissue.I try to do breathing exercises that i have been given to do but find it hard to concentrate with the twitching and pain i am in.

Yes, relatively frequently though mostly after I have logged a few days of jogging in a row. This is the added "C" or cramping in the diagnosis. Sometimes called Cramp Fasciculation Syndrome to differentiate with somewhat from BFS. This is what I have as I get cramps often in my feet (insteps) and occasionally in my calves. Still benign; you just get the added aggravation ;) .

Hi SteveI have dreadful knots in my shoulders, which my husband massages for me. I have to save up for a professional massage! There are lots of videos on youtube about deep breathing. I learnt years ago when I did yoga. It is one of the best things you can do for your body, but it does take practice. Remember to breathe all the way down into your stomach, then into your chest. Try counting - start with 5 in, hold for 2, then 5 out. You should be able to work your way up to 10 in, hold for 5, then out for 10.I hope that's helpful and not too bossy!! DB

Thanks for the info.I see an Osteopath that massages the effected muscles and i have to pay for this as its not covered on the NHS.As for the breathing i try to do a couple of times a day but find it difficult to concentrate. Will have a look on Youtube.Thankssteve

Here are some great things to do for your calves:Shallow breathing does rob the body of oxygen and may cause a build up of waste materials - that's why people pass out when they hyperventilate. Here is some online guided meditations (posted these before but perhaps you didn't see them) that include breathing:(fixed that link - it didn't paste in right the first time so try it again if it didn't work at first)If you focus on your breath you will eventually be able to sort of lock out the pains, twitches, etc. Not sure how to say this but it is possible to not let these things rule your life; as long as you allow them to control you it is like getting flushed down the toilet of victimhood, or anxiety, or however you think about it. Not saying it is easy, it may not come to you right away, but you have to make a choice for yourself and decide if you are going to allow this to continue in the same manner or if you are going to do something about it. You can, quite literally, get rid of pain with proper meditation. I still get cramps sometimes (no where near as bad as they used to be) but they don't control my life, my activities, or my mind. Well, maybe once in a while I'll get ticked off, but it is a mood and passes quickly.Daisy - the online guided meditations are from UC - associated with J Kabat-Zinn whom you mentioned on another post.
