Do I Have BFS?

Hi,
This is my first post and I'm trying to figure out if I have BFS or something else... I woke up with very tired achy legs a little over 2 months ago and then noticed both calves and both feet were twitching. Turned into all over twitching after I started researching on web. This continued 24/7 for 3 and 1/2 weeks. I freaked out and started having all sorts of sensory issues like slight numbness/ tingling in arm, legs and cheeks, even tongue felt like it was slightly burnt. Appt. with Neuro within week and he suspected possible MS and discounted the twichting since he didn't detect weakness or reflex problems. (As a 39 yr old female with sensory issues I also fit the MS profile better for him). He ordered brain, spine MRIs and lumber puncture. Nothing indicated MS so now he doesn't think anything is wrong. He has told me 3 times I don't have *** and I'm sure he's tiring of my concern (along with everyone else).

I've seen posts on this before, so sorry if this is a repeat but...... I'm really concerned because the Neuro did my EMG only 3 and 1/2 weeks into my symptoms. He only checked my legs and one arm/hand. Now I'm starting to feel fatigue in my cheeks while chewing (just under cheek bones along with slight numbness or burning). I had dentist check TMJ joint, which slightly pops, he said pathology may or may not be behind TMJ problems. My right arm and legs are definately showing fatigue faster than they have in the past. Legs are very tired/achy/stiff in morning and evening. I also have more buzzing/slight numbness after exercise or push ups. My twitching is back to mostly my calves and feet, along with eyelid right now.

Has anyone had similar experiences or any suggestions?

Do most Neuro's think something would show up on an EMG only 3 & 1/2 weeks into symptoms even if they didn't test the right area?

I'm thinking the only thing to do is have another EMG with a second Neuro.

Thanks for any feedback.

clean emg ,,, means no als...it would have picked up a problem 3 weeks into it when you had it... just a concern for MS ,, because you are having sensory problems,, but most of us hear have sensory problems,, its good to get checked for MS but i doubt you have it.. you exihibit classic bfs symptoms... when you speak of calf and feet twitching along with fatigue sensory symptoms, ect,, you are speaking BFS. you dont have als for sure, i doubt you have ms,, but its good to check... and its good to assume you have bfs... its a process of elimination to get a BFS diagnosis.

good luck

Hi there.

Sorry about your problems. What you are experiencing is very typical here and your neuro is absolutely correct...you would see problems on the emg early if there were already fascics.

It is important for you to remember that als is a disease of weakness and twitching is simply a symptom of the illness. ALS in nearly all cases starts with weakness and, in fact, most als patients don't notice the twitching or they do in conjunction with profound weakness.

You don't have als but get ready for a long run. I have been twitching 24-7 in the calves for 30 months. Sporadic elsewhere. Also remember that feet and calves are very typically bfs. Eyelids are benign.

Did you take any antibiotics or SSRIs just prior to this starting? Did you have a viral infection?

You are okay...please don't worry anymore...I killed myself for two years only to still be going very well. Today I did 60 min of jump training - a brutal workout but clearly indicating I'm not dying anytime soon from a mnd.

Rest well - u are fine.
