Determined to Get ALS: My Story

I have had this planned since the massive foot cramp episode but thought I wouldn't tell you until after my visit. SO here it goes. He did an EMG and nerve conductivity test on my left foot and leg. THe one that has been twitching and cramping. He had me push up and down on my foot during the EMG and so forth. He said I know you are determined to get ALS. I said no I am not please hush... Anyway he said I had a good healthy EMG and "powerful muscles". He said I had powerful muscles when I was doing the pushing with my foot. I used to run alot and felt empowered at this point. He took a needle into my foot and said I was riddled with scar tissue. He jab at the scar tissue for about 5 minutes. It sounded like bubble wrap. He said this is what's irritating you and causing the cramps. I feel confident in his reading of the EMG but I am not sure about the scar tissue causing all this trouble. My foot is still twitching even after he kneaded out the scar tissue. I just think its my foots turn to twitch. I had never had the cramping like I did the last couple of weeks. The cramping is what got me to call. I was worried sick once again. SO I have 2 clean emg's . At the end of the visit I said so what do you think. I said do you think I have a MND and he said absolutely not. He said I think you have drumroll please fibromyalgia esp due the scar tissue around my foot and jaw. He needled my jaw too. Ouch.

Thats fantastic new TS, so happy you received good news, well except for the mention of Fibro. That confuses me a little, only when he said Fibromyalgia due to scar tissue in your foot..?? Did he elaborate on that one at all, or do you know what he meant. Regardless, no ALS so thats fantastic.Take Care TS, and I hope you are feeling much relief, although I'm sure you are. Thanks for sharing with us.Your friendRobynn :D)

Good news, although not surprising. :D) If you are anything like me, the cramps will come, they will go, then they will come again. I had a cramp in my left foot that would present itself every day for weeks. Then it was gone. Before that, it was my right hand....for months, but I haven't seen that one for years. I'm sure they will return, but I'm not holding my breath.

I am glad everything came out well for you. I am curious though like Robynn asked about the Fibromyalgia from the scar tissue. Don't worry about the cramps I went to my Neuro with it and he said I had cramp fasiculation syndrome and put me on meds for it. Glad you are doing well and hope you feel better soon. Why did he needle your jaw were you having some issues with it?Mary :D)

Yes Robynn you're right. He said the scar tissue in my foot was odd. I had way to much scar tissue. Then he took a needle to my jaw. I have had a lot of TMJ like issues and all I could here was pop pop. He said do you hear that and I said yes it sounds like bubble wrap. He said this is fibro. He said normal people don't have all this scar tissue on their jaws. He popped and jabbed. I googled Fibromyalgia and scar tissue and it sounds like people with Fibromyalgia have issues with scar tissue. When I had my breast augmentation the doctor said I had unusual scar tissue in my breast. Sorry if that is TMI but then during my second C-section the doctor told me she had never seen that much scar tissue ever.. She was cussing like a sailor to get to my daughter. She said I had insane amounts of scar tissue. Who knows. The crazy thing was for weeks nothing and now I am just having them only in my left foot with cramping. I have maybe one a day elsewhere. My left foot is going nuts. I would much rather it spread itself out everywhere. That I know is BFS. I don't like it hanging out in one place and one place only. Yes I have hot spots before but I had hot spots with body wide twitching. It sucks no matter what!

TS, that is so weird, I had the same issues during my second C-section two years ago now. During this C-section, it took the OBGYN like 15 min or longer to get to the baby (something that should take no longer then just a few min.). He said he had never seen so much webbing (scare tissue) on a patient who had only had one C-section prior to the second (and at only a 2 yr interval from the first). He yelled out "About Time" once he was able to get to the baby, LOL. I have TMJ issues as well, have for years, never had the EMG there though (ouch is rite). I find what your neuro said very interesting, and wish he and I could have a sit down, LOLAny way, thanks for sharing the info TS, gives me other things to chew on :D) Your friendRobynn :D)

Robynn - My best friend Jennifer is a doctor and of course I called her after my neuro appointment and she and I went over the fact that my scar tissue issues have been commented on several times. She was curious to why I had scar tissue around the jaw and so forth. She said if Fibromyalgia causes excessive scar tissue than it should be taken more seriously. I think I hav what my dad was diagnosed with and that is BFS. However this autoimmune peripheral nerve hyperexcitability fits me to a T.
