HELLO everybody,I am a twitcher since last 10 months[emg done in may 2010 and clinical exam normal].Recently noted some dents over my body.1-deep depression/ridge in both palms rt>lt extending from below thumb pad upto base of thumb. It appears upon thumb being held in extention. Also the area below thumb and pinky is less bulky[thenar and hypothenar eminences]2-Big dent 4by3cm on back side of elbow joints[both] upon forearm extention.I know this is normal in some persons but i think my one is bigger and to add more fear this area is having nonstop fascics. This thing is making me more anxious.3-a mild superficial dent in lt. mid thigh.4-dents in outer aspects of butts, more clearly observed upon standing.I dont know since how long these things r there, however i noted them in last 3/4 months as i am closely observing my body since iam fasciculating[i know its bad, bad, bad,but still cant control].I am having apptmt with my neuro in december2010.Just wanted to tell this to u all and honestly requesting if ANYBODY with similar things to reply PLEASE.Thanx 4 patient listening and now on sunday eve. here going 4 shopping and dinner with my family.........Regards'n'take care.....Baily.

Yes, I'm sure if any person inspected their body closely - unless they are quite overweight, would see 'dents'. I don't know of anybody who is relatively toned muscularly and thin or even average who doesn't have this as it is most probably (from what you are saying) where the muscles attach. Stop looking for trouble, if it wants you it will find you without any help. ;) Enjoy the remains of your weekend.

Bailyloves, You are fine, you dont have ALS. You have been completely checked out by 5 neuros, had clean EMG, been told by those 5 neuros that you have BFS (which is way more assurance than I ever got), and your all over symptoms from the time line you gave in one of your first post, does not even come close to how ALS starts. If it did, you would be dead already. You said you had been obese and then lost quite a bit of weight, that will cause dents all in itself. ALS atrophy doesnt show with dents anyway, its more like hunks of muscle missing, you cant miss it, you dont have to look for dents. And you would already have very evident clinical weakness also. You dont have it.I find dents all over the place, and my hubby gently reminds me that I have lost a substantial amount of weight (because of not eating properly), so I have dents in my hand, feet, legs, I see them in several places, but I know enough about how ALS works to know that I'm not going to have atrophy occurring all over, all at once like that. These are things that happen way into the disease, when there is no guessing what is the problem. Think about this a little please. You are making yourself sick, trust me, been there, done it, still doing it some days. Please take careRobynn :D)

There is a great post on here written by Kit (a doctor).. she talks about dents & atrophy. I copied and pasted it here for you to read. Hope it helps. :D) This information is being provided to allay common fears and worries associated with normal antatomical variants. This is from another thread and I am hoping by making this easily accessible it will help people find this information quickly.KitThis goes for everyone on this entire site and will serve as a public service announcement as there seems to be a definite trend You have dents and alterations in the contours of your body. One side will always be different than the other side. The things that everyone seems to be noticing are normal anatomical landmarks that you have likely had for years. They may be more or less prominent due to:water weightexercisemuscle masshandedness - right hand or left hand dominancework activities - repetitive actions etccrossing your legswearing heelswearing flats/athletic shoesageGod has created these little dents and grooves in our bodies to serve as an area for nerves to pass without entrapment, as a place for tendons to sit, because He decided that the placement of the muscles/bones would function better. The reason we notice these little normal anatomical differences is because unfortunately with this condition we are constantly self testing or looking to evaluate and reevaluate if there has been a change. Trust me if you really examined one side of your face compared to the other you would be shocked to note that your eyes are not the same size, your lids may not open to the same amount that your jaw is not in the midline, that one nostril is larger than the other, that there are more wrinkles on one side that the other and that your hair is thicker on one side of your head than the other. Please, please please, trust me when I say this to you as I have instructed many student doctors on this....when there is a true pathologic difference in ANYTHING, we do not have to squint our eyes and examine and reexamine. It is quite obvious and comes with a whole plethora of other symptoms and complaints. Unless you are very familiar with anatomy, you are not in a position to question the little dents because likely they are quite normal. Medicine is quite logical and the bad stuff, it follows a pattern. So in this instance before you panic as to whether or not a dent on one side of your body is something awful, please remember:When you hear hoofbeats, you should always assume horses first. Never expect zebras or worse yet, flying unicorns. Please know that I am not trying to be mean or sarcastic but offering this in an effort to help allay the fears of many people.
