Decreasing Twitching, Increasing Calfs?

for the last 5 months for twitching has decreased to nearly NOTHING. Now my calves have been going crazy for the last few day's. Starting to wonder if it has to do with me not drinking gatorade? I believe gatorade is what made my twitching stop, but on the flip side the gatorade has allot of sodium which increased my BP. Geez this is a no win situation LOL....... Hope my calves stop soon, they are literally vibrate twitching HUGE. Ashley

Ashley,Remember that this is just a flare up. They happen for god knows what reason. Give it a week or two and they will calm back down. For now, don't forget to do the things that have helped you to calm your anxiety down.

Ashley my dear!So sorry this is happening to you. I think you can go to Whole Foods (or the equivalent) and get a sports drink that has electrolytes but doesn't have the same amount of sodium (and high fructose corn syrup for that matter, or artificial sweeteners). Take a look at Pedialyte - which I doubt has the same amount of sodium in it.Take care of yourself!! Your twitching will slow down, but you need to watch high blood pressure carefully, my friend...mitra

worry me, Mitra and mike thanks guys. This upsets me so bad my calves are just exploding. Tonight I didn't even worry all night while we were at a water park. I have this run coming up, I just can't let this get in my way, I just can't! I'm determined to do this run for myself to end all worries of Al's to confirm in my own mind. I just pray I have to strength to stick by my decision to do this. I have been training and lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks. anyway I won't ramble anymore, just been bummed about my twitch increase. thanks so much u guys :)

Hi ash...If its any comfort, my right calf still hasnt stopped. 3 weeks now! I know how much inner strength you have... tap into it and you'll be just fine. remember what you told me??? You will smash the run, and the endorphins will make you feel even better !Go do it! X

Hi Ashley, just a thought...I know you are training for an upcoming run, maybe the extra exercise has caused the calves to flare. I know I have been hitting the gym hard lately and the arches of my feet go nonstop for a few hours after exercise. Hope things calm down and good luck on your run! Shelly

Ashley,I totally agree with Shelley. The reason your calves are going like wild fire is because you're running so much. I promise you. And, you're not replenishing your electrolytes like you used to with Gatorade.Get some Vitamin Water or something and drinks lots of it, and realize that exercise like that really increases twitches. So proud of you and your run!Mitra

great job with you exercise! Dont forget that if you judge yourself and feel pressure of not meeting your goals, you are adding more stress into the equation. Rather than thinkingcatastrophically that the calves will get in your way, maybe think what is likely to happen: you can accomplish your goals with an annoyance of bfs, and really do what you set out to do. good going! And if you were forced to stop, would you really judge yourself so harshly after all of the training you have done? All of your effort seems like an accomplishment in itself.Do epson salts have sodium and are they ok witj blood pressure situation ? Your exercise is enspiring me to get back to exercise.

Isnt the first line of treatment for peripheral nerve hyperexcitability syndromes Sodium channel blockers ? So it could be something to do with excess salt.I must confess i get salt cravings .

YOU ARE ALL SO AMAZING for taking the time to boost me. I have been so on edge about my flare up with my calves it sucks. I promiss you all I won't let this get me down for this run, I WILL DO THIS. I will definatly need lots of encouragment. I just hope I don't think about my right leg not working in the middle of the run, sounds stupid but its the truth as to why I'm so nervous. Thank you all for being so amazing :) Ashley

Ashely, Have you tried Electrolyte Water? if I am correct, electrolyte water is similar to Gatorade in electrolytes, but minus the sodium. If you find that Gatorade is helping you, I would suggest replacing it with electrolyte water so you don't raise your BP. :D) -Carm

Carm thanks so much, I had no idea there was such a thing. I'm heading to the store tommorow to get it. i swear by gatorade that is why I stopped twitching. Thanks so much :) Ash

HATE IT! I want to cry! I feal so frustrated! I take care of my body, work really hard to fight this and this is what happens. SUCKS

Couple of questions for anyone:....... Ok one is do you think Twiching can be caused by Low vitamin D? Also I have slightly low potassium? Also do you think LUPUS has twitching? Dr has suspected lupus for me. I have had 2 positive ANA and Hep 2 cells is 23 which should be 11. (THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HEPATITUS JUST SO YOU KNOW LOL) I don't like the word Hep LOL. Ash

I'm going to try to answer these, but not sure I'm qualified with either:1. It seems like just about everyone on here has low vitamin D if tested. I haven't been tested, but it seems like a really common theme. So, I would venture to say they might be related somehow.2. When my finger swelled up and I googled it (yeah, I know I shouldn't) - lupus came up. But joint pain was only one of many symptoms, and the symptoms were pretty serious. Google it and I think you'll be relatively sure you don't have it, because you don't have the symptoms. But, I'm not a doctor!! Have your doctor test for it, if he thinks you might have it??Mitra
