Although I am undiagnosed, BFS sounds like a strong front runner. I WAS supposed to see a neurologist today, but forces beyond my control made me reschedule. Anyway...
My symtoms started one day about 6 weeks ago - btwn 9-9:30am, and my two legs got that rubbery feeling. Weakness.. at least perceived weaness. I freaked out!!! Then the next day my perceived weakness went to my left leg and left arm. Then the twiching started pretty soon after. Not much pain, though. I did have some issues with my back, but have since gone away (sort of). The weakness seems to go from my two legs for one day, then my left leg and arm the next. Weird. But the twitching is everywhere - arms, legs, feet, ears, nose, back, scalp. Again, no pain. I have the strength and coordination to do everything I need to do. I went to a nurse practitioner and had two rounds of blood test along with a nuerologic diagnostic test. After the tests, she said it was "stress".
My symptoms all coinsided with the following life changes that all occured within a three month period:
-new (and first) house being built
-news of preganancy (my first!)
-living with in-laws in the meantime
-moving away from my comfortable city environment to a small rural suburb that I don't really like yet
-new job with greater pay and responsibility
-a drive commute that lasts an hour each way, up from taking the subway for 20 minutes a day
In my research, I learned about Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS). For those with back pain, please learn about this (it's ultimately harmless). While not a widely recognized medical term, it was discovered by a Dr. Sarno who states that if you have TMS, your back pain is b/c of repressed rage due to an event or stress going on in your life. The body then cuts off oxygen to your back side, and you start feeling pain in the back, neck, buttocks, legs and many other places. This happens b/c the body distracts you from focusing on your repressed emotions, and creates this real pain for you to focus on instead. It seems that the body would rather deal with physical pains than with emotional ones. Dr. Sarno links the body and mind more closely than most medical professionals. He's legit, and was on highlighted on 20/20 once. He helped John Stossel cure his decade long battle with back pain within a few weeks! I read one of his books, and it all makes a lot of sense.
After reading this chat room and learning about BFS, however, I now feel BFS is more what I have. Twitching, combined with a psuedo weakness. I do have a small, recurring but sharp pain in the back, though. So I don't know.
Anyway, how many of you feel that your weakness/twitching was brought on by stressful changes in your life? Or does the twiching just happen with no real external stressors?
