Watch out for this ingredient in many products, ranging from toothpastes to soaps to deodarants. I accidentally brushed my teeth with some toothpaste tonight containing this ingredient and then I spent the next hour in bed wondering why my twitching ramped up and both of my feet felt like they had an electric motor in them. I looked at the toothpaste ingredients and could only find one ingredient on there that wasn't in any of the other toothpastes I'd used in the past - Triclosan. My right foot was fasciculating like crazy - machine gun twitches, which almost never happens right when I go to bed. So I probably won't sleep at all tonight because of this ingredient, but I've learned my lesson here and I threw out all products containing this ingredient in my house including some deodarant which I've used in the past. I am going to re-evaluate all of my household products over the next week or two, as I wonder if some of these funky ingredients could be contributing to bfs symptoms. If you think I'm over-reacting here or being irrational, there is plenty of evidence out there to support triclosan being a dangerous ingredient for cardiac and skeletal muscle function. In mice, it was shown to affect the sarcoplasmic recticulum in the muscle fibers, causing the calcium channels in the muscle to be out of whack. JUST WHAT A BFSer needs! More muscle problems! Here is a link to an article discussing the potential harm of Triclosan in muscle function: Now not every BFSer is as sensitive to chemicals and other things as I am, but I'd watch out for this one, especially if it's in your toothpaste.
